A Word About This Book

It all started on the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars RPG community forums when someone asked for stats for Wicket W. Warrick. I created a holistic version of Wicket that included the considerable material from the Expanded Universe, including the 1985 Ewoks cartoon series and comic books and the telefilms Caravan of Courage and Battle for Endor. Not only did I have a lot of fun researching the character and lovingly creating the stat block, it was well received on the forums, which is the ultimate prize for any gamer. This prompted me to start a thread entitled “Obscure Live Action Film Character Stats” in the Praxeum in which I statted just that – characters like Teek, BoShek, Tessek and Amanaman – the background and secondary characters that only the die hard fans know. The thread became wildly popular, and was among the most read threads on the Star Wars forums (judging by the number of views). Before long, I ended up pushing the limit of “obscure” by statting Greedo, and other contributors continued to push that limit by statting everyone from Princess Leia to Boba Fett to Luke Skywalker. By that time, the master list at the beginning of the thread had become so large and unwieldy, that I created a new thread around the time the forums interface was updated, removing the “Obscure” modifier from the title, and the community and I continued to add to the font of stat blocks. It was obvious that the majority of the contributors were dedicating as much time and effort to researching and carefully building the characters as I had for the original Wicket stat block. What we ended up with was an astounding collection.

One of the other aspects about the original and updated threads that made them so popular was that I treated them like a blog: with each stat block I created, I provided an anecdote from my life about the character, like the greatest Christmas of my life – 1978 – when I got the 3¼“ Kenner action figures for the Cantina patrons and swooned as I removed Greedo from the packaging, or the time Two-Onebee’s name came to me in a dream (sort of), or my romantic obsession with Rabé the Naboo handmaiden. In some instances, I created stat blocks as tributes to certain events, like my Baby Leia stat block to celebrate the birth of my daughter or my stat blocks for Saun Dann and the Amorphian being as a tribute to the late actors Art Carney and Harvey Korman upon their deaths. Before long, the other forum members contributed their own amusing or touching anecdotes with their stat blocks as well, such as Zrissa’s account, with her Admiral Motti stat block, of being “hit on” by Richard LaParmentier at DragonCon, or Dendrite’s confession of how the death of Cordé frightened him as a child. As much as I would have liked to include these many anecdotes in this book, I was required to pare it down as much as possible lest it become too unwieldy as a roleplaying resource.

What prompted me to finally compile the book was a number of things: a personal crisis in my own life that ended my forays to the forums, the conclusion of the Saga Edition line of gaming materials, and the threatened imminent end of the WotC Star Wars RPG forums. I didn’t want all the hard work of the dedicated contributors to be lost to the ether, so I made an effort to compile it all here as one last gift to the Star Wars Saga Edition RPG community.

Charal may remain shapeshifted indefinitely, provided the ring is intact and on her finger, but reverts to her original form if killed. If the ring is destroyed or taken from her finger, she is trapped in raven form until she reacquires the ring (if it is not destroyed) or dies. Charal does not gain the mental traits, ability bonuses, mental powers, feats, skills or psychological limitations of a raven when in that form. Her flight in raven form is limited by all the terms and conditions of her Flight talent, and is really just a half-fluff/half-crunch interpretation of that Talent (the ring nevertheless increases Charal's CL from 8 to 9 because of the crunch portion of its description).

Some sources indicate Chellemi Chuovvick was a padawan who died at the Battle of Geonosis. Other sources indicate Chellemi Chuovvick was a Jedi Master who survived the Battle of Geonosis. Some sources indicate Chellemi Chuovvick was a man, others indicate she was a woman. All we know for sure about Chellemi Chuovvick is that, according to Holonet News (which, I suppose, is G-Canon), this person, along with Empatajayos Brand and Bultar Swan, was sent by the Council to negotiate peace in the Sepan Sector, and that the name was used for one of the Jedi in the Geonosis Arena. But, for purposes of this build, and for the sake of the fanboys who love the female version, we'll assume Chellemi Chuovvick is at least a Jedi Knight and was portrayed in the film by Emma Howard, an Australian member of the Byron Bay Kendo Club.
