Web Services Developer

The Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh provide members and fellows with several services.
The main one being the eLogbook, an online portfolio for surgeons. With the increased focus on
Continual Professional Development within the health sector I have been involved in several
interesting projects.
Projects/Work:

• Trainee notification popup for trainee users of the eLogbook. Working with several
people in the surgical sector including Consultants.
• Implemented a Single Sign-on solution for use between the eLogbook and the
Intercollegiate Surgical Curriculum Programme (ISCP) site. The solution has been
developed so that it can be easily plugged into other sites. Developed in C#.
• Developed a web site for both Regional Surgical Advisers and Dental Regional Advisers
using DotNetNuke. Implemented custom modules for the client’s needs. Used N-tier
architecture for the presentation layer, the business layer and data access layer, coded
using C# with a SQL Server database. Developed a Windows Service for both sites to
synchronise Advisers and Trainee user information from in house application.
• Implemented the backend for the colleges Museum and Library sites. This included an
image upload/cropping tool using jQuery and C#.
• Planned, implemented and tested a web site for CPD and Recertification that is used
alongside the eLogbook for organisations to create and manage courses for people within
the surgical/health sector. Used N-tier architecture for the presentation layer, the
business layer and data access layer, coded using VB.Net with a SQL Server database.
• General ongoing maintenance to web sites and in house applications. As well as ongoing
support for the existing projects I developed.

• Liaise with internal/external clients to discuss and confirm requirements.

• Involved in the full development lifecycle – research/planning, implementing and testing.
• To create documentation to support the application after final release.
• Ongoing support for existing projects.

developed using Microsoft technologies. I was involved in customising the core wrap platform
for each new client.

• Work to strict daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
• Deliver a working platform for around eight new clients per week as well as having to set
up demonstration versions of the platform for other clients.
