Role of the Teachers Unions in education policy making

An association of Teachers in the same practiced Teaching or related trained profession who act
jointly to protect for all members good pay, hours, and other work circumstances is called
Teacher union. The main.purpose of a teacher union is to jointly negotiate for wages, hours, and
working.conditions.A strike is usually the last alternative of.a teacher union, but when talks have
reached an stalemate, a strike may be the only bargaining instrument left for teachers.
Too many of the worlds children are out of school or obtain spotted, sub-standard learning.
These children have thoughts that may never be rewarded; prospective that may never be
fulfilled and realized. By ensuring that every child has right of entry to quality education, we
arrange the basis for growth and development, renovation, transformation, novelty, prospect and
equal opportunity. (Unicef)
As no inclusive theoretical model of Teacher union activities exists, it is not obvious from a
general law to a particular instance; valid independently of observation. A fundamental rationale
of any Teacher union is to take full advantage of the well-being of its members. In order to
achieve this aim, teachers unions often activist for higher pay, fewer hours and higher settlement
for teachers.
Regardless of global acknowledgment of the fact that education is one of the most significant
affairs in life, many children lack access to quality education. Quality education starts with
honest education policy. In order to develop the quality of education policies, assistance of those
working in the ground of education, should be encouraged.
A quality basic education equips boys and girls with the knowledge, skills and attitude essential
to adopt healthy lifestyles defend themselves from diseases and take an energetic character in
social, profitable and supporting decision-making as they move toward adolescence and
maturity. Educated adults are more likely to be educated about appropriate child-nurture
practices and to ensure that their children begin school on time and are ready to learn. No one
will dispute the profit of education, but despite the whole acknowledgement, the truth is that 69
million children are missing out on quality education (Global Campaign for Education, 2011).
What is the cause of this? Is it due to unfortunate education policy? And then who is guilty for
the unfortunate education policy? This research is concerned with the participation of Teachers
Unions in the education policy making process. This study will explore the Role of the Teachers
Unions in education policy making and finally to identify the challenges of education policy
making directly faced by the Teachers Unions.
