Basic Radio Orientation: Steps Needed for Basic VFO and Memory Usage

Left/Right; Cross Band

Press and HOLD LEFT Volume knob to Power ON/OFF


Rotate Volume knob to adjust volume; Rotate ring at base to adjust squelch
Left Side
LOW: Press repeatedly: Low (5 W), MID-2 (10 W), MID-1 (20 W). No Indicator = High (50/35W)
LOW in Memory mode: Hold to toggle between frequency and alpha/numeric label
V/M: Toggle VFO <> Memory; HOLD in VFO = Smart Search, HOLD in Memory = Memory Bank
HM: Home frequency recall; HOLD activates Priority Channel Scanning
SCN: Press to activate scanning; In Memory Mode: Press to activate Memory Tune
Right Side (Menu #20 can reset the Right keys to the function on the Display frame
MHz: Press to tune in 1 MHz steps; HOLD to tune in 10 MHz steps
REV: Press to hear repeater input frequency. HOLD to change offset direction, -/+ or off (Simplex)
TONE: Press to change Squelch type;
SCN: Press to make next key selection act on the SUB band; MAIN will blink on SUB band.
Push LEFT or RIGHT MAIN Dial to designate one side as MAIN
Touch VM key on MAIN side to go to VFO mode or P2 on microphone
HOLD Main Dial to go up bands, one band per press/hold
Press Main Dial to enable frequency change via rotation of Dial
While in VFO mode, input desired frequency via key pad on Microphone
On Right Side if in Key 2 (see Menu #20, KeyMod), Press MHz to tune in 1 MHz steps
Press SET Key to access MENU
Hold SET key to transfer contents of Main band VFO to a Memory Register
Automatic; Press SET and rotate to Menu #2 ARS to enable/disable.
Press SET and rotate to Menu #33 (RPT.MOD) to make selection. HOLD MAIN Dial to save/exit
Rotate to Menu #36 SHIFT to vary the default shift amount.
a. Press SET Key to access MENU
d. Rotate DIAL to Menu #40 Tone F
b. Rotate Main Dial to Menu #41 TONE M
e. Press the MAIN knob to select desired tone
c. Press the Main Dial to select ENC
f. Rotate Main Dial to desired frequency
g. Press the Main Dial enable CTCSS tone
h. Press and HOLD Main Dial to exit.
Toggle V/M button to go from VFO to Memory and back and forth
Press + Hold SET key; Rotate dial to desired memory location number; Press SET key again
a. After Memory Storage or Menu #25 NAME
d. Press MAIN to advance to next space
b. Press Main and rotate dial to first space
f. Repeat until name is complete
g. Press SET to accept and exit
c. Press MAIN and rotate to select character
To go to memory Mode, press VM key to toggle between Memory and VFO
Input three digits of desired memory location on microphone; (ex 1 input 001)
HOLD SCN key while in Memory Mode until Memory Tune MT is displayed
Rotate Dial to change frequency. Press V/M to return to original memory
Works only for cross bands, not same bands: UHF to VHF or VHF to UHF, not VHF to VHF, etc.
Set frequencies for both UHF and VHF; (example sub= 446.000 Simplex and MAIN = a VHF Repeater)
Push SET, go to Menu #45 X-RPT then press Main to select;
Rotate to X-Start and Press Main again to select and to start cross band repeat.
Set your HT to 446.000 simplex. Incoming (receive) comes in on sub; Outgoing (transmit) via MAIN
Press SET to exit (Hold a Hyper-Memory (1 6) to save left/right set up. (cross-band on not saved)
NUMBER: Memory location
ENC: Tone Squelch is enabled
Negative (-), Positive (+): Repeater offset
MAIN: Designates which side is MAIN
BUSY: Busy Channel

MUTE: Mute is active


KEY 2: Key 2 Selection active (Menu #20)
L or M: Low Power
Clock: Auto Power Off active
Key: Keypad Lock is on (see Menu #21)
