to say that most of us like to plug in some earphones and listen to some tunes on
cardio day.
On that front, the research is clear: music helps focus your attention, enhance your work

music can also help you run fastereven without you being consciously aware of
it.
On research done on 16 recreational runners, a 2015 Belgian study found that even just
a slight increase of BPM of a song (an increase so small that the runners didnt even
notice it) resulted in an increase in cadence.
Specifically, they found that increasing a BPM by 3% can improve your running cadence
by 2%.
Part of their study included making a very, very extensive list of 117 songs they used
while doing their research, complete with the BPM count. So in the interest of science,
were sharing their playlist here.
Its a solid playlist, too. Cant Stop by Red Hot Chili Peppers? Homecoming by Kanye
West? Disorder by Joy Division? "Crazy In Love" by Beyonce? Sold. There's even metal
(Mastodon!), hip hop (Lil Wayne!), and some really retro stuff. (Ella Fitzgerald, anyone?)
Oh, and there's One Direction, as well. Hmmm.
