50 years old Indian IT Industry has seen lot of Ups and Downs.

It convinced world
market that it can execute outsourcing, be it sheer infrastructure or be it high end
research or consultancy. It gave confidence to the world political leaders that data
handling in India is safe and secure. It has only witnessed positive growth year on
year, quarter on quarter throughout this age. In last 50 years, it has produced world
class organizations, world class CEOs, world class technology product managers,
world class people managers.
Undoubted, Indian IT industry is indebted to one organization which is torchbearer
to our Indian IT Story is none other than Tata Consultancy Services. TATA created
many #1s in India. Jamsetji Tata is regarded as the legendary "Father of Indian
Industry". F. C. Kohli, founder and first CEO of Tata Consultancy Services, India's
largest software consultancy company is considered as Father of Indian IT Industry.
In last 47 years, TCS produced wonderful engineers, managers and leaders. It gave
opportunity to grow amazing homegrown leaders. TCS has witnessed strong early IT
business and it is continuing its footprint consistently even in contemporary times.
It has successfully executed early mainframe technology stack to client servers in
1980s-1990s to web based application services of 2000s to latest cloud, digital,
mobility, data driven business services. It has successfully transitioned its business
from early water fall software engineering lifecycle to iterative models to agile or
extreme programming models to now ready to adopt latest DevOps methodology.
TCS has successfully executed projects from erstwhile Time and Material pricing
model to Fixed Price model to service based pricing model to now ready to take of
revenue driven as well risk-reward driven pricing models. TCS has successful
groomed traditional R&D type of people to niche skilled resources to multi-faceted
skilled to contemporary service specific skilled resources. The evolution of quality in
TCS started with simple quality controls like structured systems analysis and design
processes in 1982 to procedures for milestone reviews in 1984 to establishment of
QUALITY Assurance models using quality management systems in late 2000s. It has
transformed its story from ISO 9000 certifications to CMM Level 3 to Level 5 to
PCMM level 5 to BS7799, and BS15000 etc. It has managed its US focus to more
than 150 countries. It has successfully managed single culture organization to multicultured organization of today.
It is not an ordinary story! Hearing this itself, gives us eye-rotating experience. You
can imagine if a person experiencing this whole transformation right from level 1
story to current stage and part of this growth story is absolutely amazing!! It would
be vibrant experience! It is a great IT story.
My Dear Student friends, Ladies and Gentlemen, Today We are fortunate to have
one such person who witnessed this whole story in his own experience. He is none
other than Mr. Rajananna, VP and Location Head of TCS.

Today I take privilege to introduce Mr. Rajanna, an amazing industry leader, very
good people manager, quality conscious resource person, dynamic business leader,
highly networked society member and more than anything else, a humble gentle
human being! Today we have wonderful opportunity to meet one such leader and
he is with us this afternoon.
