Its Onam once again. Kuwait is getting ready for a month long celebration. After a long vacation, the
families are coming back. Many of them would miss celebrating this Onam back home due to the early opening
of schools. Nevertheless, we are sure many would make the best of it in Kuwait. Seva Darshan Kuwait units are
also celebrating Onam together this time. The theme is Onam For Everyone. The members would be preparing the sadya and programs themselves and the contributions will be send to the various Seva Sadanams, back
in India for the welfare of the children there. Here lies the true spirit of celebration. Onam is and should not be
about grandeur in celebration but in simplicity and ensuring all
clothes and good food are part of the celebration and it would make everyone happier when a thought is
spared for the people in need too.
Like our dear A.P.J Kalam always professed, corruption and poverty is a disease of society. A doctor
would never back away from treating the patient even if he knew the chances of survival are low. We must
keep working on eradicating these issues. And the best way would be to ensure that the society is also a part of
our happiness and moments of despair. When the society on the whole feels the same way and work together
for the prosperity of our nation, we would reach the true state of Param Vaibhavam (Supreme Glory) of our
Nation.
Festivals like Raksha Bandhan reiterate our commitment of service to the society. It stresses on the
importance of family bonding, and stronger families are the foundation of our nation. The festival which brings
a message of love and respect between a brother and sister is today being celebrated as a festival of bonding
between all citizens of the society to one another. Like Yoga, the concept of a society based on family values is
another important contribution of our Nation to the world. While celebrating festivals like Onam and Raksha
Bandhan, we must be aware of the changing face of celebrations in our society. Excessive influence of todays
changing culture influenced by new age thoughts and other medium like films, is leading to an excess of law
breaking and incidents where even precious life is lost.
And this bonding of society as a family was visible this month at the mammoth gathering of over 50000
people in the UAE, of the Indian community, to honour our Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi. Cutting
across caste, religion and language, the community came together to welcome him. Seva Darshan had good
fortune of representing Kuwait at the venue. We hope the visit, and many more to come in the Middle East
regions, will improve relationships between our country and pave way for a greater feeling of mutual respect
between its citizens.
The coming month will witness major path breaking programmes from the Seva Darshan family. A
comprehensive website has been launched which brings forward the contributions by the organization since its
inception. The site also keeps its members and well-wishers up to date of its activities and programmes. A two
day workshop is being held for Yuva Darshan students by various expert facilitators. Seva Darshan will
support the effort of Science International Forum to launch its next session of Sastra Prathiba examinations in
Kuwait and also the first effort to send a representation from Kuwait to the National Childrens Science
Congress being held in Hyderabad at the end of the year.
We wish you all a prosperous Onam and wish you a year of happiness. Vande Mataram !!!

Madambakkam and Velachery find no mention in the hymns but have inscriptions on local administration. Velachery has the rare Saptamatrika temple, now called the Chelli Amman temple, one of the few in the state.

The first head pleaded, "Please don't eat this fruit, it is a poisonous one. We share
the same stomach. If you eat it, we will both die". Mocking at the first head, the second head replied, "Shut up! Since I am the one who found this fruit in the first place,
I have the right to eat it myself".
Knowing what would happen, the first head began to cry. The second head ate the
poisonous fruit without bothering the first head's requests. As a consequence of this
action, as soon as the poison reached the stomach, the bird died. Thus, both of the
heads lost their lives.
The wise indeed say: Union is strength.
