BARNEGAT A Maryland man was charged with
shooting a township man in the chest, critically
wounding him, following an argument early Friday,
authorities said.
Two Virginia men also were charged with the gunman in connection with a string of car burglaries in
Ocean County, according to Al Della Fave, spokesman
for the Ocean County Prosecutors Office.
The shooting led authorities to shut down Route 9
for several hours while they hunted for suspects.
Hours after the shooting, detectives still were scouring the crime scene behind a multi-unit house on
North Main Street (Route 9), where the victim lives.
The three-story home is located on a busy street downtown; part of the backyard was marked by police tape.
An old sedan in the yard had its trunk open as officers

ASBURY PARK In this city by the sea, still struggling to rediscover its glory days, there are names
that echo far beyond the boardwalk.
Bruce Springsteen. The Stone Pony.
And of course, Madame Marie.
Come on in, get a reading today.
The words of Marie Castello, Madame Marie, Asbury Park psychic and Springsteen inspiration, echo
years after her death.
Fans of the psychic or The Boss still stroll the
boardwalk searching for nostalgia or a hint at good
fortune when they enter the ocean blue Temple of
Knowledge, a cozy fortunetelling shack that has stood
at the boardwalk since Marie founded the business in
1932.
When Springsteen was a teenager hanging around
the boardwalk, she told him he would become famous.
He did, and he returned the favor by making her famous in a song quoted in most stories about her.
Did you hear the cops finally busted Madame Marie for telling fortunes better than they do? he
crooned in his 1973 ballad Fourth of July, Asbury
Park.
Maries ties to the city ran deep. She was faithful in
the dark times, when Asbury Park seemed a lost city,
insisting that she could see the citys recovery in the
future.
She was right. Now condos are rising out of what
were once ruins.
Marie died at age 93 in 2008 and superstorm Sandy
washed the matriarchs portrait out of her shop, said
Maries granddaughter, Mildred Dainzie Costello,

who minds the shop this day, tempting passers-by

with offers to glimpse into their future.
Her family rebuilt the temple after the storm. Maries name still is on the awning out front. Dainzie said
people still stop by, looking for her or to offer their
condolences.
Come on over, get a reading, Dainzie called, puffing an electronic cigarette and drinking yellow Red
Bull from a Pepsi cup in between customers.
The 48-year-old psychic wore a chic black dress
and black sunglasses. Her wavy blond hair fell next to
her Tiffany heart pendant necklace. Her neon orange
manicure matched her neon orange pedicure.
She sometimes shared private words in Romanian
with her sister, Sabrina Castello, 45, who was dressed
in sweat pants and a tank top and didnt want her photo
in the newspaper. Theyre admitted Jersey girls and
concerned about their appearance.
The building might be 120 square feet. There are

For at least nine months, the deer has roamed the

If we dont stand up for (wildlife) who is going to?
asked Poh Yee Holmes, who created the Care2 online
