REASON
During November 2007, the operational software (OPS) of the EICAS computers will be updated from
Ver 03 to Ver 06 IAW EO 767 31-003.
This alert informs what the significant changes will be, regarding the internal changes and the different
pages of the system.
Regarding manuals as AMM, FIM, FCOM, IPC, this update doesnt need interim actions between the
change of the OPS and the next release of these manuals.
To know what OPS version is installed in a particular airplane, go to CONF/MCDP page and there you will
find P/N of the OPS software, use the last two digits to determine software level ( 03 or 06)
This change is transparent for the normal operation of the airplanes.
NOTE: Both EICAS computers must have installed the same OPS version, otherwise the STATUS
message "EICAS SOFTWARE" will show.

EICAS SOFTWARE VER 06 UPGRADE

HIGHLIGHTS

Highlights of Product Improvements Incorporated in Operational Program

Software (OPS) Version 4. 5 & 6.
Product improvements incorporated in the -1001 EICAS computer since the last OPS Version (OPS 3) is
described. The information is arranged in terms of the effects on the display pages, if any, followed by
the changes to individual Caution, Advisory, Communication, Status, and Maintenance level messages.
1. Changes with no direct effect on a display page
a. Added an OPC feature and logic for the Master Caution and Aural Tone Inhibit during landing as
provisions for the Heads-Up Display (HUD) System. The MC/AT Inhibit is active when the HUD AIII
mode is active (In AIII mode, HUD is the primary source of guidance during approach).
b. Several operators have reported nuisance messages including the following: PILOT RESPONSE, F/O
PVD, EICAS SCC, EICAS SCC I/F, RADIO TRANSMIT, LOC FAIL, ATT FAIL, APU BAT NO STBY, CABIN
ALERT, SELCAL, ELT ON, TRACK FAIL, LOC DISAGREE, RA DISAGREE, G/S FAIL, G/S DISAGREE, HDG
FAIL, HDG DISAGREE, FAST/SLOW FAIL. Collins had discovered a condition related to power-up
synchronization between two processors within the EICAS computer, then Collins changed the order in
which the SP initializes the I/O buffer. This operation is transparent to EICAS displays.
c. Revised the logic to enable the software dataload function when the program pin
configuration is invalid.
d. Revised the Takeoff Inhibit logic so that if the Master Caution light is illuminated prior to the Takeoff
Inhibit, the inhibit will not reset the light.
e. Changed the air/ground logic used to latch messages when only on the ground (NVM-G), and to latch
messages when only in the air (NVM-A), to use the analog discrete AIR/GND SYS 2 GND instead of the
analog discrete NOSE GR CMPR SYS 2 (reference WDM 32-09-12). EICAS air/ground logic for latching
NVM-G and NVM-A now uses AIR/GND SYS 1 GND and AIR/GND SYS 2 GND. No change has been made
to the basic air/ground logic used to set various messages that have air/ground logic.
2. PRIMARY ENGINE and COMPACTED Pages
a. EGT Hot Start display termination has been changed. For all engine types, when the fuel control valve
is closed, the EGT Hot Start Limit is displayed until the respective engine is running and EGT decays
below the Hot Start Limit. In OPS versions 1 through 4, when the fuel control valve was closed, the EGT
Hot Start Limit was displayed until the respective engine was running.
b. For all engine types, changed an N1 spike filter to eliminate filtering of decelerations.

3. PRIMARY ENGINE and ENG EXCD Pages

Details of changes to messages are provided in the section 9 message list.
4. STATUS Page
Details of changes to messages are provided in the section 9 message list.
5. ECS/MSG Page
Details of changes to messages are provided in the section 9 message list.
6. PERF/APU Page
Details of changes to messages are provided in the section 9 message list.
7. CONF/MCDP Page
Added provisions for display of the Nitrogen Generation System (NGS) caption and data field on
CONF/MCDP Page 2.
8. Self-Test Page
Removed the requirement to have the OPC feature TEST CONFIG set in order to display the eight digit
hexadecimal Internal Fault and Interface Fault codes on the Self Test Page. These codes may be used
for decoding EICAS faults on the airplane.
9. Caution, Advisory, Communications, Status, and Maintenance Level Messages
The following table lists the EICAS message changes incorporated in OPS 4. The messages are
organized by ATA number.
The Level column lists a code(s) for the message levels as follows:
Code
B
C
E
S
M

Description
Caution
Advisory
Communications (with aural chime)
Status
Maintenance

The Notes column lists codes for additional annunciations, for latching of messages, for an engine start
inhibit, for a communications message inhibit, and for the automatic recording of messages as follows:
