The market closed down for the day on the back of LKR 732 mn turnover. Foreigners were net sellers for
the day, while foreign participation accounted for 9% of the day's turnover. There was a crossing in Ceylon
Hotels Corporation for the day.

Inflation in August unchanged at -0.2% YoY - Inflation remained in the negative territory for the second
consecutive month, recording -0.2% YoY in August 2015. Annual average inflation moderated further to
1.0% in August 2015 from 1.3% in the previous month. Meanwhile, core inflation, which reflects the
underlying price movements in the economy, increased to 3.9% YoY in August 2015 from 3.5% in the
previous month. The CAL UPI increased from -11.8% in July to -11.2% in August 2015.

Monetary policy review August 2015 - Supported by the prevailing low interest rates, the YoY growth of
credit extended to the private sector by commercial banks accelerated to 19.4% in June 2015 compared to
17.6% in May 2015. Credit disbursed in absolute terms increased by around LKR 55bn during the month of
June, while on a cumulative basis, credit to the private sector increased by around LKR 205bn during
1H2015 compared to a decline of LKR 53bn during the corresponding period in 2014. Meanwhile, driven by
the expansion in private sector credit along with increased bank borrowings by the public sector, the YoY
growth of broad money (M2b) remained at 15.3% in June 2015 compared to 15.4% in the previous month.
The Monetary Board decided to maintain the Standing Deposit Facility Rate (SDFR) and the Standing
Lending Facility Rate (SLFR) of the Central Bank at 6.00% and 7.50%, respectively.
