Aims: to revise vocabulary studied during previous classes
to allow Ss to express themselves freely& to encourage pair work
to check and extend pupils' knowledge of lexis to describe leisure activities
to practise adjectives and their opposites
to improve pupils' spelling
to contrast the modal verbs "must" and "mustn't"
to develop Ss' abilities to understand written information
Skills involved: speaking,reading, listening, writing
Materials: textbook, hand-outs, paper, crayons, markers, blackboard, coloured chalk

Stages of the lesson


Activity 1: Checking homework
Aims: to revise the Present tense continuous
to break the ice
Procedure: the T asks the Ss to read their homework and correct potential mistakes
Interaction: T-Ss Ss-T
Skills: speaking, reading
Timing: 5
Activity 2: Vocabulary practice
Aims: to revise vocabulary belonging to certain areas: school subject, countries, jobs, weather..
to allow pupils to express themselves freely
Procedure: the T asks the Ss to solve ex 1- p 62, adding as many words as they can to word lists
belonging to various areas of vocabulary
Interaction: T-Ss, S-S, Ss-T;

Activity 3: Speaking practice
Aims: to check and extend pupils' knowledge of lexis to describe leisure activities
Procudere: the T gives the ss a worksheet with vocabulary related to free time activities and
they have to divide them into four categories: indoor, outdoor summer, outdoor winter, all
season outdoor
Interaction: T-Ss, S-T
Skills: reading, speaking
Timing: 5
Activity 4: Grammar focus
Aims: to practise adjectives and their opposites

Procedure: the T invites the pupils to come to the blackboard and to provide the antonyms for
the adjectives in ex.4- p62
Skills: speaking, writing

Activity 5: Vocabulary focus
Aims: to consolidate the terminology for different members of the family;
to check the ss' spelling
Procedure: the T writes some syllable-pairs on the BB and invites the pupils to match the
columns in order to discover the words

Activity 6: Grammar focus
Aims: to contrast the modals "must" and "must not"
to allow variety of interaction
Procedure: the T asks the ss to draw some imges containing untold messages of what we must/
must not do in our daily lives, and their colleagues are supposed to guess the message and to
translate it into words

Activity 7: Homework
Aims: to improve reading & writing skills
to check the ss understanding of a written text
Procedure: the Ss have to read a paragraph and to fill in the blanks using the words from the
box - ex.3/p 64
