INTENSIVE COURSES
General Information and Fees
Who Should Attend
ESS courses are designed primarily for engineers and scientists. However, technicians, lawyers and other professionals
who are working in industry, governmental agencies, universities and research institutes may also find them helpful in
strengthening their background in a given topic.

Method of Instruction
Instructors use lectures, case studies, discussions and visual aids to present the course material. The teaching
materials are in English. However, to improve communication between lecturers and participants, both Arabic and
English may be used in instruction.
Course participants may use AUCs laboratories and computer facilities.

Time and Duration

The courses are designed to be held over five days for 30 hours of instruction, with classes usually beginning at 9 am
and ending at 3 pm.
In some cases, a course may begin at 3 pm and end at 9 pm.

Online Assessment-Based Courses:

ESS offers e-learning opportunities for busy professionals and others who cannot attend classes. Courses are held
online through Blackboard and Moodle, which are class management systems that help instructors and trainees share
course material, assignments, examinations and grades.
A select number of intensive courses are made available online.
Online tutorials are available to those who have no previous experience with online training.
For an updated list of online courses, check the ESS website: www.aucegypt.edu/sse/ess.

Application Deadline
Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The deadline for registraton is one week before the first day of the course.

Course Fees
The tuition fees for each course are LE 1,800 for Egyptians and $700 for non-Egyptians.
Fees should be paid in cash at Engineering and Science Services or by check payable to AUC. Letters of authorization
from companies are acceptable.
Participants are urged to pay the fees at least three days before the course begins.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

To guarantee a full refund, cancellations must be made no later than at least two working days prior to the start of the

course. Cancellations after this point are entitled to a partial refund only.
Refunds are not granted once the course has begun.
All requests for refunds must be accompanied by the original payment receipt, the course materials and a copy of the
participants national ID.
Following a confirmed refund, a check will be issued in the participants name or company approximately a month
after the official request.

Certificate of Participation
A certificate of participation is presented upon successful completion of each course. Those who successfully complete
a series of five courses and submit an acceptable project will be awarded a specialization certificate.
