REFERS TO THE PROCESS OF PEHEATING A WELD TO BELOW THE LOWER TRASNSFORMATION TEMPERATURE AT A
CONTROLLED RATE, HOLDING FOR A SPECIFIC TIME AND COOLING AT A CONTROLLED RATE.
RESIDUAL STRESS
EFFECTS OF MECHANICAL PROPERTIES
EFFECT ON CREEP PROPERTIES
OTHERS BENEFITS
Residual Stress
1. The development of residual stresses approaching or even exceeding the yield stress is possible when welding
thick section.
2. Petrochemical, chemical Oil and Gas etc. the existence of residual stress of this magnitude is completely
unacceptable
3. The tress developed due to thermal expansion of the pipe work can take on a far greater significance then
residual stress due to welding
Other benefits
1. Improving the diffusion of hydrogen out of weld metal
2. Softening the heat affected zone and thus improving toughness (although not weld metal toughness)
3. Improving dimensional stability during machining.
4. Improving ductility.
5. Improving the resistance to stress corrosion cracking.
6. Reducing the effects of cold work
