This Data Sheet applies to seamless tubes, circular hollow sections and tube products made of quenched and
tempered weldable fine-grain structural steel exhibiting the properties listed below in the as-supplied
condition.
This steel is particularly suitable for highly stressed welded components, e.g. in structural steelwork such as
bridges, ships, lifting gear and commercial vehicles, as well s for hydraulic cylinders.
8

Seamless tubes, circular hollow sections and tube products made of FineXcell 890 are manufactured ace. to EN
10297-1 in conjunction with EN 10220 or ace.to ENI 10210-1 in conjunction with EN 10210-2 (for special
purposes material can be delivered also on special request ac:c. to SEW 090-2 or ace. to EN 10216-3 in
conjunction with EN
10220 ). The product will be supplied with a type 3. l or 3.2 inspection certrricate according to EN
10204. Tubes intended for special purposes (e.g. chrome P'lating) are subject to special agreement.
The service performance of products made from th!iS steel is critically dependent on downstream processing (e. g.
welding methods) and application conditions.Fabric:ators shall ensure that their calculation, design and operating
methods match the material, reflect state-of-the-art practices and are suitable for the intended purpose, e. g. SEW
088, published by VDEh Verlag Stahleisen GmbH, DusS4 Idorf, Germany, should be observed in all processing.
The selection of the steel grade is the customer's responsibility.

average values, only one individual value of a set of three may fall up to 30% short of the average.
'Testing is conducted on longitudinal specimens;?: 5mm wall thickness at the lowest temperature for which values are
stated. Additional testing of transverse specimen and at higher temperatures may be performed by special agreement
and have to
be documented in the Inspection Certificate. No additional marking is required.
Requirements for sub-size specimens are reduced in proportion to the cross section of the actual specimen compared to
standard specimens.

Hot forming operations should be carried out in the temperature range of 105oc to 75oc. Hot forming
operations such as forging and upsetting should be carried out in the upper temperature range. For processes
stretching the material, the lower temperature range is recommended: Where the final forming stage involves
reduction ratios < 5%,
temperatures as low as 7oo c are permissible. Subsequently the material should be allowed to cool in still
air. Hot forming must be followed by quenching and tempering.
Cold forming is possible. If reheating is necessary, c:are should be taken to avoid (even locally limited)
heating to temperatures above 55oc or 30 K below temperinn level, because this might affect the material's
properties. After heavy cold working with reduction ratios > 5%, the material must be either subject to a further
quench and temper treatment or to a stress-relieving.

Care should be taken to minimize the heat input in riG welding. Stress relieving will generally not be necessary
and should be performed only where it is expressly specified or appears advisable with a view to the design
and/or operating conditions.
Arc-welding should be carried out with appropriate basic-type consumables matching the steel's composition and
properties.

temperature
Workpieces must attain the specified temperature over the entire crosssection.
Once the product has reached its hardening temperature no further soaking is
required. For tempering, a minimum soaking time of 30 minutes is spedfied.
For stress relieving, the minimum soaking time is 30 minutes. In the case of multiple annealing, the maximum
soaking time is 150 minutes. When soaking for more than 90 minutes, the temperature should remain close to the
lower limit of the range.
