ReStore celebrating first year in Germantown

The ReStore is closing in on its oneyear anniversary in Germantown.

The ReStore, which is operated by
Habitat of Humanity of Washington and
Dodge Counties, is located at W188
N10707 Maple Road, just south of
Gander Mountain. The store sells
donated items ranging from construction
material to windows, furniture, tools and
appliances. It is staffed by volunteers.
"We are grateful for those who have
donated and shopped so far," said
Bernie Hletko, manager of the
Germantown ReStore. "We're continu-

ing to pursue people who

don't know of ReStore and
our mission of building
affordable housing for residents of Washington and
Dodge counties."
Among the donated
items accepted by the
ReStore are appliances,
cabinets furniture and windows, millwork and trim,
roofing, flooring, hardware and lumber. Hletko
noted that the ReStore
does pick up donated
items.
The proceeds raised from the sale
of items at the ReStore go toward the
Habitat for Humanity of Washington
and Dodge Counties goal of providing
affordable housing in the area.
Habitat for Humanity has built homes
for individuals, with the individual
homeowners involved contributing
250 labor hours toward the construction of the residences. Habitat for
Humanity serves as the financier for
the project. The loans are paid back to
Habitat for Humanity without interest.

Unfortunately, there are lots of restrictions when it comes to shipping packages. Does
it contain lithium batteries, alcohol, tobacco, firearms, ammunition, or dry ice?
Fortunately, we are ready to help here at The UPS Store! Were the experts at helping
you navigate all those restrictions. Most lithium batteries like those in our smartphones, tablets and laptops can be shipped easily, as long as the package is labeled
correctly. Alcohol and tobacco shipping is very restricted, so its best to give those
thoughtful gifts in person. Firearms, parts, scopes and ammunition cannot be shipped
through The UPS Stores. However, we can offer you our expert packaging services so
all you have to do is handle the shipping! Shipping with dry ice is a great way to keep
items cold, but are limits on how much dry ice can be shipped and packaging can be
tricky. If you ever have questions regarding packaging or shipping, just give us a call!

Dear Dr. Winter, I have a bad mouth! I have

loose teeth, root tips, bleeding gums and bad
mouth odor. I really want to have a smile I can be
proud of for once in my life.
I am on a fixed income so I do not have all the
money for a glamorous makeover but I am
hopeful you can help me. I saw your website and
realize you have helped thousands of patients
with problems similar to mine. Please let me
know how you can help me. Ann
Dear Ann, when people are in pain or ashamed
of their mouth the first step is always the hardest!
Since we see people with severe dental issues you
can be assured that you will never be judged. The
concepts that Dr. Winter lectures on include
"Upgradeable Dentistry" which allows people to
pick a plan that will sequentially help people
improve their smiles at a pace they can afford.
If you must have dentures we may offer deluxe
dentures with soft liners to give you the ultimate
in comfort. Or we may offer small diameter
implants to help hold your dentures firmly in
place without the need for messy adhesives.
From there we discuss whether we can perform
grafting to improve the amount of bone you have
so that implants can be done within 8-12 months
while avoiding more expensive grafting
procedures. Perhaps we can discuss a path where
2-4 implants are placed each year and you would
go from a removable implant retained denture to
a "fixed bridge". That option would allow you to
have your teeth in your mouth 24/7 without the
embarrassment of removing them at night.
So having the flexibility to discuss dynamic
treatments is what we offer at Hampton Dental
Associates.

Football: Mistakes costly for Germantown in loss to Memorial

Field possession and mistakes combined to turn a close game between
Germantown and Waukesha Catholic
Memorial into a lopsided contest, as the
Crusaders won 28-0.
"It was field position tonight and when
it swung the other way, that's what really
hurt us," Germantown Coach Jake Davis
said.
The teams opened the first quarter
trading possessions on the Catholic
Memorial side of the field. The Cruaders
got on the board with an 80-yard, four
play drive that ended with a 4-yard run
by Josh Karfonta with 26 seconds left in
the first quarter. The extra point kick hit
the goal post and was no good.
Germantown's defense kept Memorial
out of the end zone for the second quarter, as Germantown's defense contained
Memorial.
"That was the game we wanted to be
in to test us and learn from, and we've got
to let that drive us the rest of the way,"
Davis said.
The Crusader's next score came at the
2:22 mark of the third quarter as Karfonta
finished a drive which was started by a
Germantown fumble with a 1-yard run.
The Chargers then completed the twopoint conversion.
At the 10:30 mark of the fourth quarter,
Neko Medina intercepted a
Germantown pass and returned it 15-

yards for a score.

"The field position got
away from us -- the
turnovers, the mistakes. We
knew that is what it was
going to come down to,"
Davis said.
Memorial's next drive
was finished by a 33-yard
run by Karfonta with 6:33
left in the game.
Karfonta was the leading runner for the game,
rushing for 179 yards on

carries.
Austin

Girls volleyball: Mixed results for Falls, Gtown at Joust

The Menomonee Falls girls volleyball
team had mixed results at the
Homestead/Thomas More Joust Aug. 2829.
The tournament is the traditional big
event the first weekend on the girls volleyball season, featuring several of the top
teams from the state.
Menomonee Falls started with losses to
Burlington (21-25, 25-21, 13-15) and West
Bend East (19-25, 14-25) before finishing
the first day of the tournament with a 25-8,
25-11 win over Thomas More. The Indians
started the next day with a 25-20, 25-23
win over Germantown but lost to Brookfield
East, 19-25, 23-25. Menomonee Falls then
split its next two matches, defeating
Kimberly 25-18, 25-17 before finishing the
tournament with a 25-23, 24-26, 19-21

loss to Muskego. In the second game of the

Muskego match, Menomonee Falls held a
20-14 lead before the Warriors rallied to
win the game. In the final game,
Menomonee Falls forced a tie on at least
three occasions before Muskego scored
two points to seal the victory.
"(A) young team, still working on a lot
of different things. Played a lot of different
lineups today," Menomonee Falls Coach J.
C. Bruns said afterward. "We saw some
things that worked and a lot of things we
have to work on."
Bruns said his team was close with
Burlington, leading 13-10 in the third game
before losing.
"We knew that we could compete with
one of the teams that was in the championship," Bruns said, referring to the

Burlington's Division I runner up finish at the

state tournament last year. "That was a
good sign."
He said that West Bend East "took it too
it us."
Coming out of the tournament, Bruns
said, "we're not where we want to be,
which we knew. But we know we can compete with other teams.
Other Joust results
Germantown struggled at the Joust, losing to East Troy (16-25, 21-25), Hartland
Arrowhead (22-25, 18-25), Kimberly (2025, 26-28), Menomonee Falls, Brookfield
Central (25-16, 17-25, 12-15) and
Brookfield East (25-16, 18-25, 12-15). The
Warhawks started Aug. 29 with a 25-17,
25-17 win over Thomas More.

Kettle Moraine Lutheran started the

tournament with a 22-25, 25-22, 15-10
win over Muskego. The Chargers then lost
to Neenah, Nicolet,
Greenfield,
WIsconsin Lutheran and New Berlin West.

night throughout the year, roughly 40 men
take advantage of the temporary housing
facility provided by The Salvation Army,
the only such facility available to men in
Waukesha County. As such, bed linens get
used heavily throughout the year and need
to be replaced on a regular basis.
Additionally, The Waukesha Salvation
Army provides a number of hygiene products for the men staying in the Lodge.
Supplies of these items are extremely low
at this time, and donations would be
appreciated. Top items include body
wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, shampoo,
antacids, lip balm, and mouthwash.
All donations can be brought to The
Waukesha Salvation Army, 445 Madison
St., Waukesha, WI 53188 weekdays from
8:00am 4:00pm.
For more information on The Salvation
Army, to make a donation or volunteer contact (262) 547-7367 or visit www.waukeshasalvationarmy.org
The Salvation Army, an evangelical
part of the universal Christian church, has
been supporting those in need in His name
without discrimination since 1865. The
Salvation Army has been actively serving
Waukesha County since 1896 with a variety of services including: emergency shelter, community meal, food pantry and
youth programs. For more information on
The Salvation Army of Waukesha contact
the office at (262) 547-7367 or visit
