Drums [or barrels] are those large, steel or plastic con­ 
tainers, much like this photo.  We can recycle only the 
STEEL ones, and ONLY if they are EMPTY and DRY, and 
have the lid removed, or one opening in the top and 
bottom, and 2 openings punched on opposite sides if it 
is a sealed­top drum.  You can bring these to either the Landfill 
& Recycling Center or to the Household Hazardous Waste & Re­ 
cycling Center, both in Concord.  If the drum contains KNOWN 
hazardous contents which you’d like to properly dispose of, 
these contents can be poured into 5 gallon [max. size] contain­ 
ers, labeled with the contents, and brought to the HHW Facility 
on one of the days shown on the front page.

ing to put it in a plastic bag—don’t. Plastic 
winds around sorting machines and creates a 
mess and expense when processed.  You can 
also just place a sheet of plywood over the bin 
or just wait until your next [dry] collection day.
