Understanding the important interactions of drugs and their targets, i.e., DNA, RNA and proteins. The course discusses the physicochemical properties
of drugs and how this determines the interactions of small molecules (drugs) with biological macromolecules (proteins and nucleic acids) as the
targets. The course covers also the fundamental mechanisms of the regulation of targets, as well as fundamental molecular interactions important for
both detection and diagnostic applications for drugs and metabolites. The following are the selected contextual topics in medicinal chemistry to be
discussed in this course as examples: (i) Cholinergics, anticholinergics, and anticholinesterases; (ii) The adrenergic nervous system; (iii) The opium
analgesic; (iv) Antiulcer agents; (v) Antibacterial agents; (vi) Antiviral agents; and (vii) Anticancer agents.

of lecturer in the 5nd lecture (week 5). The studentss knowledge about drug-protein interactions will also be tested in the 5nd lecture
(week 5).
