Definitions
Occasion refers to a gathering of people for a purpose, for example a celebration.
Context refers to the degree of formality and the setting of the occasion; for example
work, leisure, sport, formal, informal, social, outdoor environment.

It is recommended that this unit standard be assessed against in conjunction with


other Supported Learning unit standards to allow for integrated assessment.

Elements and performance criteria


Element 1
Select clothes to wear to occasions.
Range

evidence is required for three different occasions.

Performance criteria
1.1

Clothes are selected relevant to the occasions and their contexts.

1.2

Clothes are selected relevant for the weather conditions.


Range

weather conditions may include but are not limited to wet, dry,
windy, sunny, hot, cold, changing conditions.

1.3

Clothes are selected that fit the wearer.

1.4

Clothes are selected that are clean and fit for purpose.

Element 2
Wear selected clothes to different occasions.
Range

evidence is required for three different occasions.

Performance criteria
2.1

Clothes are worn in the manner for which they were designed.
Range

2.2

may include but is not limited to fastened buttons, ties, zips;


worn round the right way.

The need to change clothing, if applicable, is identified in accordance with the


occasion and context.
Range

may include but is not limited to drink spillage, accidental soiling.

Element 3
Identify the need to care for clothes.
Performance criteria
3.1

The need for laundering dirty clothes is identified in terms of cleanliness.

The need to repair clothes that are damaged or worn is identified in terms of fit
for purpose.

Methods of storing different types of clothing are identified in terms of suitability


for the garment.
Range

in garment, jammed zips.

The need to replace worn and stained clothing is identified in terms of


appearance and fit for purpose.

Please note
Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated
authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against
unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.
Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register
credits from assessment against unit standards.
Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards
must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
