Exercise 2: Interpretation
A. Visualization / Comparative Techniques
Terrain Attribute Comparison
Often,thebestwaytounderstanddifferencesinterrainattributecalculationsistovieweachlayerin
conjunctionwithoneanother.Bypayingcarefulattentiontoaspecificportionofthelandscape,one
canoverlayeachoftheterrainattributestogainabetterunderstandingofwhyeachattribute'svalueis
whatitis.
Orthophoto/Terrain Attribute Comparison
Usingairphotostodoaroughvalidationisacceptableforthelargestfeaturesonly,butmore
importantly,utilizingorthophotographyisagreatwaytobetterunderstandyourlandscape.While
groundtruthingisthemosteffectiveandaccuratewaytodeterminehowyourterrainattributesare
describingthelandscape,thisisnotalwayspossible,especiallyonprivatelyownedland.Furthermore,
orthophotoswhenusedwithflowaccumulationanditsassociatedsecondaryterrainattributes,often
helpinassessingwhetherornothydrologicconditioningisrequiredforthetaskathand
