Type of lesson: review and consolidation
Objectives:
By the end of the lesson the students will have been able:
1. to talk about the topic of the unit ( contancting people)
2. to describe peoples appearances;
3. to understand the global meaning of what they are going to listen .
4. to fill in the gaps with the correct words;
5. to ask for, give and politely refuse permission to do things.
Lesson aims:
To encourage Ss to use their imagination, creativity and knowledge about the
topic;
To teach vocabulary associated with describing peoples appearances;
To develop vocabulary and grammar skills;
To discuss and express opinions;
To make deductions about present.
Skills: reading, writing, listening, speaking
Materials: textbook, workbook, handouts, pictures, blackboard, mini-film on the
projector, laptop;
Strategy methods: conversation, dialogue, problematical situation, exercises,
explanation.
ACTIVITY 1 - Warm up
Aims: -to introduce the students into the atmosphere of the lesson;

-to attract students attention on the topic;

PROCEDURE:
Teacher make informal conversation (greetings, absents, how are you ?, weather) and
checks Ss homework.

Timing: 3 minutes
ACTIVITY 2
Aims:
Motivate Ss to think of the topic
Develop vocabulary skills (describing peoples appearances)
Prepare Ss for listening activity
PROCEDURE 1
T checks Ss remember relatives (all the people in your family). T reads aloud the
headings of exercise 1 page 82 and asks Ss to answer the questions.
PROCEDURE 2
T asks Ss to focus on the pictures. T asks Ss who is Peggy and Tom are (the couple who
had a 25-th wedding anniversary party in lesson 10B) and what they remember about
Derek, Brenda and Nick Bradley (Derek Bradley was Toms best man and Brenda was
Peggys bridesmaid. They now live in New York with their teenage son, Nick). T tells
Ss that Derek, Brenda and Nick are staying with Peggy and Tom after the party. T gives
Ss time to read sentences a). f), then plays the recording. Ss listen and fill in the gaps.

ACTIVITY 2
Aims:
To match some actions to their pictures.
To complete the sentences with the correct words
PROCEDURE 1

T puts Ss into pairs. Ss check their answers to ex .2 point a and match conversations
1 3 to pictures A-C. T checks answers with the class. (1C; 2B; 3A)
PROCEDURE 2
T checks Ss remember give/ refuse permission. T focuses Ss on responses 1 6 from
the conversations. Ss work on their own and decide if each response is giving
permission or refusing permission. Ss do the exercise on their own. T puts the
recording to play again. Ss listen and check their answers to 3a) and 3b). After that T
checks answers with the class. (Responses 2, 4 and 5 give permission; responses 1, 3
and 6 refuse permission).

ACTIVITY 3
Aims:
to understand the meaning of the film
to develop vocabulary and grammar skills
To personalize and get Ss interested in the topic
PROCEDURE:
T shows Ss a film with permission on the projector. The task will be to complete some
task sheets about this film. After that Ss have to arrange a conversation from the
projector in order to listen it.

Timing: 10 minutes

ACTIVITY 4
Aims:
to encourage Ss to use their imagination, creativity and knowledge about the
topic
to have Ss practice listening and speaking skills focus on the lesson topic
PROCEDURE 1

T explains the task on exercise 4 page 82. Ss have to look at the ways of asking for
permission in bold in exercise 2a). They tell T which verb form comes after each
phrase: the infinitive, Present Simple or Past Simple. T explains Ss that in sentences 1, 3
and 5 there are modal verbs and are therefore followed by an infinitive.

PROCEDURE 2
T asks Ss to turn to page 101 and look at Im not in love. This song was first recorded
by the British band 10 CC in 1975. It was also recorded by the American singer Tori
Amos and the British band Westlife. Ss listen and fill in the gaps when the recording is
playing. After Ss have finished to complete the gaps, T puts the recording again,
pausing after each line for Ss to check their answers.

Timing: 10 minutes
ACTIVITY 5 (homework and awards)
Aims:
to encourage Ss to use their imagination, creativity and knowledge about the
topic
to brainstorm the Ss knowledge on the topic and train them in using it creativity.
PROCEDURE 1
Teacher gives home assignment: ex 7 page 83
PROCEDURE 2
Teacher gives awards to the most competitive Ss.
