NWARW Minutes May 4, 2015

General Meeting
OPENING:
President, Cassie Daniel called the meeting to order and Lesli Fitzpatrick led us in an opening prayer.
SREC member Mike McCusky led the pledges to the American and the Texas flags.
Vice President, Membership, Michele Samuelson introduced our guests, candidates, and elected officials.
Guests at this meeting were Elexis Grimes, Carol Neal, and Zoe Russell. Candidates and Elected
Officials present were Mike Pendley for Wm. Co. Constable Pct. 2; Mike McCusky, SREC member SD5;
Brandon Simon for Congressman Flores; Jodi Rushton, TFRW President; Jennifer Lambert, TFRW
Deputy Regional President; and James Dickey, TCRP Chair.
PROGRAM: 2nd Vice President - Programs, Terri Flow introduced our speaker, Texas Federation of
Republican Women (TFRW) President, Jodi Rushton. Jodi spoke about our Texas organization being a
driving force in Texas politics, supporting Republican candidates with volunteer hours, fundraising, and
donations. Women have had the vote for 90 years and TFRW has been around for the past 60 of those
years. She reminded us of the blessings of living in the great state of Texas and challenged us to
continue to provide leadership to the nation by changing with the times as our clubs grow younger and
more diverse, specifically using new technologies to promote our goals and increase membership.
BUSINESS MEETING:
A list of members in attendance was filed. A quorum of voting members was present.
Officer Reports:
Recording Secretary, Rhonda Murphy Minutes from the April meeting were accepted and filed.
Treasurer, Olga Lasher reported our balance as $3,246.63.

1 VP-Membership, Michele Samuelson reported our club has 40 active members and 2 new associate
members. The 2015-2016 Membership Directory and Handbooks were available for active members. A
New Member Folder was also available which included helpful info such as a Campaign Hours Reporting
Form, TFRW Patron Form, and info on upcoming club events for the summer.

2 VP-Programs, Terri Flow announced our September meeting will feature a Judicial Panel of prominent
women judges.
Corresponding Secretary, Cindy Osborne reported receiving thank you cards from Joan Crawford and
Judy Moore. She asked members to send information requiring correspondence to her at her email listed
in the directory.
Committee Reports:
Campaign Activities: No report.
Caring for America: Chair Susan Friedrich has a report due by June 1 and asked if members would send
her their hours for 2014-2015. Caring for America projects are: May United through Reading.
Deployed military parents read books aloud on video to their children. Please give cash or checks to
Michele Samuelson. June/July Spicing up Summer - collecting spices for the Capitol Area Food Bank
at our summer socials. August Splash of Color - collecting new 8 ct. boxes of crayons for the Dell
childrens hospital at our social in August.

Hospitality: Chair Elaine Lehmann thanked those who have volunteered to be greeters at this years
meetings. She still needs volunteers for November and December.
Legislative: Terri Flow reminded us that there are only 301 days until the Texas Republican Primary and
there are 8 Republican Presidential Candidates at this time.
Telephone: Chair Jean Crawford still needs 1 more volunteer for this committee. This month there were
only 6 members to RSVP for our meeting. We must have 20 meals to reserve our meeting room at Dave
& Busters. Pat Dollar added that if members want to help the club, this is an easy job.
New Business:
This years Nominations Committee was elected to select candidates for next years club officer positions.
Cindy Osborne nominated Katie Kenneally. Katie Kenneally nominated Susan Friedrich. Susan Friedrich
nominated Cindy Osborne. The vote on those nominations passed. Susan Friedrich will chair this
committee.
This years Summer Social Events were announced and a flier was distributed that also included info on a
Presidential Debate Watch Party and our annual club fundraiser, the NWARW Republican Round-Up.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
A Literacy Committee Chair is needed.

Nov 5-7 TFRW State Convention in Lubbock, TX

The next Executive Committee meeting will be held on Friday, May 8 at 11:30am at Big Daddys Burgers
on Hwy. 183 at Burnet Rd.
The next General Meeting will not be held on the first Monday in September due to the Labor Day

holiday. Instead, our meeting will be Monday, September 14 at Dave & Busters Restaurant, 11:15 am
social and 11:45 am meeting.
