Chapter 1: System Requirements
General Overview
Graphics/CAD Engine
The Graphics/CAD Engine is the major change to the software between
version 4.0 and X1. The native file format has changed from the ACIS (*.sat)
file to two file types. The FARO CAD data (*.fcm) contains the information
from a CAD file (i.e. IGES, VDA, STEP). The FARO CAM2 Measure X
(*.fce) contains the measurement data. This allows multiple parts to reference
the same CAD file. The FARO CAD Engine is developed in FARO Europe and
has been in use for more than 10 years.
AutoRecover
CAM2 Measure X saves a backup file every 10 minutes. In the event of a
system crash you will be prompted to recover a lost file. This is the only
prompt to recover the file.

Chapter 5: Constructions Practical
Constraints Tab
Allows you to force a feature to a user specified position or diameter. This
allows CAM2 Measure X to solve for the position or diameter with more
precision. Setting the diameter of a feature solve it to the position. This is ideal
for aligning to a fixture with certified tooling balls. Setting the XYZ position of
a feature is ideal when trying to determine the diameter/radius of a feature
when only a small portion of the feature can be measured.
NOTE: CAM2 Measure X only supports arc, circle and sphere.
31
Chapter 5: Constructions Practical
The tooling ball has a certified diameter of 12.7 mm. Specify the diameter in
CAM2 Measure X so the position of the sphere solves for the center point with
more precision.
2
Diameter = checked
Value = 12.7.
X = unchecked.
Y = unchecked.
Z = unchecked.
Notice the Diameter of the sphere is now 12.7 mm. By forcing the software to
fit a diameter the X, Y, Z position can be solved with more accuracy.
4
The arc has a known center point of X = 0.0, Y = -95.0, Z =60.0. Specify the
center point in CAM2 Measure X and solves for a radius can be solved with
more precision.
32
Chapter 5: Constructions Practical
Diameter =
unchecked.
X = checked,
Value = 0.0.
Y = checked.,
Value = -95.0.
Z = checked.,
Value = 60.0.
Notice the position of the arc is now at X = 0.0, Y = -95.0 and Z = 60.0. By
forcing the software to fit a position the readings can be used to determine the
radius of the curve.
Edit Button
The EDIT button was new in CAM2 Measure, version 4.0.
Allows you to modify a feature. Constructions and Nominals (non-CAD) will
open the proper construction dialog box and allow you to modify the values.
For Measurements, you will Add Readings or Replace Readings to a feature.
By adding readings to a feature you can measure a large radius or plane from
multiple device locations.

3-2-1 Changes
The 3-2-1 Coordinate System allows the use of a line versus of a plane for the
primary axis. The first selection in the coordinate system is the primary datum.
For a turbine or a spinning shaft the primary datum is often measured as a
cylinder. Selecting the cylinder will construct a coordinate system where the
primary plane is perpendicular to the cylinder.

Chapter 7: Scanning and Comparing to CAD Practical
Device Position
Set Active
The SET ACTIVE command was new in CAM2 Measure, version 4.0.
Sets the active measurement device, or device location. With multiple devices,
you can choose which device to measure the part. This allows you to switch
between measurement devices in a single drawing file.
Clear
The CLEAR command was new in CAM2 Measure, version 4.0.
Sets the active device to None, or no measurement device. This command
should only be used for advanced applications.
New
The NEW command was new in CAM2 Measure, version 4.0.
Creates a new device position in the drawing file. This allows you to add an
additional device to the measurement file. This command should be used along
with the DEFINE command.
Define
The DEFINE command was new in CAM2 Measure, version 4.0.
Aligns a device to the measurement file. This command can be used to add a
second measurement device to the existing drawing, or to align the same
device to a new location within the drawing. The MOVE DEVICE POSITION
adds readings to the features used in the command, which causes the features
to move from their original position. The DEFINE Device Position uses new
features. The MOVE DEVICE POSITION must use measured features; the
DEFINE DEVICE POSITION can use Measured or Nominal features to align.

NOTE: The coordinate system on the CAD model is not at the center of
Circle 9. The coordinate system defined on the part does not match the
CAD model. The CAD=Part alignment requires that the part and CAD
coordinate system are in the same location. To move the coordinate system
from the center of Circle 9 to the edge of the part a translation must be
performed. The translation coordinate system can be used to move a
coordinate system from a location defined by the datums in order to match
the model. This will keep the coordinate system based upon the datums.

Measure Tube
Round Tube
The MEASURE ROUND TUBE command links a series of plane, cylinder
and torus commands to construct a single round tube. End B is the first feature
109
Chapter 10: Round Tubing
Rectangular Tube
The MEASURE RECTANGULAR TUBE command links a series of plane
commands together to construct a single rectangular tube.
Tube Fitting
The MEASURE TUBE FITTING command allows you to design a tube by
measuring points in space to define the tube segments. A plane and cylinder at
the ends of the tube is required. The plane and cylinder are used to determine
the starting and ending points of the tube as well as the angle to the surface.
Construct Tube
Enter XYZ
Round
The XYZ values of the breakpoints, tube diameter and bend radius of the tube
can be entered into a list to create a tube.
Rectangular
The XYZ values of the breakpoints, tube width, tube height and bend radius of
the tube can be entered into a list to create a tube.
Enter PTB
Round
The Pull (y), Turn (B), Bend (C), tube diameter and bend radius of the can be
entered into a list to create a tube.
Rectangular
The Pull (y), Turn (B), Bend (C), tube width, tube height and bend radius of the
can be entered into a list to create a tube.
From Features
A tube can be constructed from measured, constructed or nominal geometry.
Two planes, a series of cylinders and torids are selected to construct a tube.
110
Chapter 10: Round Tubing
Breakpoints
The breakpoints of a constructed or nominal tube can be added as separate
features for use in alignment, construction or dimension commands.
Importing Data
Import CSV
Select a comma-delimited file that contains the XYZ or PTB information for a
tube. This command will populate the list with the Pull, Turn, Bend, or XYZ
value, bend radius and diameter information. The format for this command
should be:
Tube diameter
01, X, Y, Z, 0, 0, 0, 0
02, X, Y, Z, P, T, B, Bend Radius
03, X, Y, Z, P, T, B, Bend Radius
##, X, Y, Z, P, T, B, 0
NOTE: If the CONSTRUCT > TUBE > ENTER XYZ is used, only the X,
Y, Z and Bend Radius information is needed. The PTB fields can be left
blank. The X, Y, Z fields are not required for the ENTER PTB command.
Import BendPro
Select a tube from the BendPro database. This command will populate the
list with the Pull, Turn, Bend, Bend Radius and diameter information that was
used to create the tube.
From Polyline
Select a polyline from the CAD view and the XYZ breakpoint list will be
populated with the vertices of the polyline.
Tube Reporting
Tube Correction Report
TubeBendCorrection is a report format specifically designed for calculating
tube spring back. The Pull Turn Bend of the measured tube will be compared
to the Pull Turn Bend of the nominal tube and a correction report will be
111
Chapter 10: Round Tubing
The Tubing Preferences are based upon the settings of the tube
bending machine.
The tubing bend radius can be measured for each bend or entered
(default) for the tube. If a bend angle is 180 degrees you must
measure the bend as a torus.
