On Sunday, September 13, the Spirit Sunday Ministry
Fair will take place between worship services. This is a
great opportunity for you to learn of all the ministries Desert Spring offers in developing deeply committed followers of Jesus Christ and maybe even find a ministry
where God is calling you to serve. A no cost lunch will be
served.

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL RESUMES

SEPTEMBER 13
11:00am 12:00am, Room 9
Adult Sunday School meets from 11am 12pm in room 9.
We will be studying Invitation to the Old Testament, an
8 session study. Explore the Old Testament story of God
& Gods calling of the people of Israel through the many
voices of the biblical text. Hear the magnificence of a
Creation hymn, discover the law and wisdom teachings,
listen to the warning of the prophets and explore the poetry of the Song of Solomon.

THANK YOU, ALUMINUM TABS DONORS

Thank you to all those who bring
aluminum tabs to the church. Seven gallons of tabs were delivered to
Ronald McDonald House today. The container ( a small cardboard House) is always located on
the kiosk in the entrance to the all
purpose area. The RMH staff is grateful to our church
for our efforts toward this charity. Don't forget to bring
the tabs to church with you. Such an easy way to help
others.

Deborah Circle is excited to start our new
season on Wednesday, September 9 at 9:30
am in Downs Hall at the church. All
women are welcome to attend. We will plan our new
season and discuss chapter 5 of the book: Strong Was

Flight Instructor, Jack Livingston,
has been raising his 8-yr.-old niece, Natalie, since the accident that took her parents' lives. Her Amish nanny,
Laura, loves the little girl as her own. All seems well,
until the knock on Jack's door brings Kelly, who was asking questions about Natalie. Who is she?
Our book-lovers meet on the 2nd Thursday of each
month, at 11:30a.m.. We bring our lunch, discuss our
book and learn from each other, too! Join us
on September 10th and feel free to bring a friend.

SACKS FOR SOULS BAGS

TO BE DISTRIBUTED SUNDAY
There is a need and we at Desert Spring
UMC are asked to help fill that need.
Open Doors (formerly named UMSM,
United Methodist Social Ministries) distributes food and other items to families and friends in
hardship. Please be generous by helping to fill The
Pantry.
Grocery bags will be handed out next Sunday, September 13. We ask that you fill the bag with the listed food
items and return the filled bags on the following
Sunday, September 20. The food will be given to
Open Doors where needy families and friends can receive help.

You Know You Need Financial Peace University ifFrom time to time, I have heard from some previous
Financial Peace University (FPU) Members that they have heard people saying that they do not need FPU as they have
their finances under control. I believe that most people would benefit from FPU as we all can learn some better ways
of handling money. A side benefit of FPU is improved communication between spouses.
You probably have heard Jeff Foxworthys routine on various subjects that begins with You Know You Are a Redneck If You (fill in the blank) I thought that using the Foxworthy approach would be a good way to point out the
necessity for taking a FPU class. The following are a few scenarios to help you determine if you need FPU.
You know you need FPU if you :
paid interest on a credit card in the past two years;
think that having a car loan is normal;
have no clue what your total monthly expenses are;
have a floating rate home mortgage loan;
have less than three to six months expenses in an Emergency Fund;
think that you can retire ONLY on Social Security income;
have ever borrowed from your 401 (k)/401 (b) plan;
fail to contribute at least up to the employer match to your 401 (k)/401 (b) plan;
often have too much month left at the end of your money;
frequently have finance related arguments with your spouse or significant other.
These are just a few red flags that signal that you need FPU. Wouldnt you like to have Financial Peace in your life?
FPU may provide the answer to your prayers about your financial problems.

DISCIPLE I CLASS ORGANIZING

Becoming Disciples through Bible Study is a program of
disciplined Bible study, which covers the entire Bible over
the course of 34 weeks. The Bible is the text for the program and three to four hours of Bible reading and reflection is required each week. A study manual is used to guide
the Bible reading and preparation for the weekly two-hour
group sessions. During these sessions, a video presented by
a Bible scholar as well as the group discussions will aid in
the understanding of the week's reading. Class date and

prices would you prayerfully consider supporting the
Sunday School Classrooms with much needed supplies? We need: kid size scissors, liquid glue, washable markers, masking tape, transparent tape, staples/
staplers, Expo dry erase markers, construction paper
11x17 size and bulletin board butcher paper. Simply
leave items in the little red wagon just near the cookie
table in the sanctuary lobby, or in classroom 7 of the
East courtyard. Thank you tremendously for your loving stewardship to supply the children's classrooms.

Sermons you would like recorded
(desertspringumc@gmail.com). Be sure to request MP3
or WAVE. These are free of charge. CDs will be available approximately one week after the request is submitted. You may pick up Sermon request forms and the
finished CDs on the very back shelf in the church office.
Remember that you may also download sermons directly to your computer to listen to yourself or send this
link to friends.
