I. STANDARD COMPETENCE
The course aims at providing students with capability of translating various genres of text
from Bahasa Indonesia into intelligible English.

II. BASIC COMPETENCE


1. Students will understand some translating problems from Bahasa Indonesia into English.
2. Students will discover some problems and techniques in translating from Bahasa
Indonesia into English.
3. Students will be able to practice translating any different varieties of texts from Bahasa
Indonesia into intelligible English.

III. LEARNING INDICATORS


The students are able to:
1. Make an analysis upon a certain kind of Indonesia-English translated text by finding
some unidentified concepts, indicating any strategies used in the translation and
some errors in translating.
2. Translate simple sentences.
3. Translate complex sentences.
4. Translate short paragraphs.
5. Translate longer texts of various genres.

IV. SCOPE OF LECTURE


The course consists of the following:
1. Some Problems in Translating from Bahasa Indonesia into English
2. Some Unidentified Concepts in Translating
3. The English Sentence Construction

V. EVALUATION
The evaluation is based on individual work which consists of the following:
1. Recognition Project

Students are to work with translated texts (Bahasa Indonesia into English) in order to
find:
a. the unidentified concepts in the translation
b. any strategies used in the translation
c. errors in the translation
2. Translating Project
a. Sentence-level Translating
b. Short paragraph Translating
c. Longer text Translating
3. Mid-term Test
Paper-and-pen Test
4. Final Test
Paper-and-pen Test

VI. SCORING
1. Recognition Project
The scoring is based on the number of correctly identified unidentified concepts,
translating strategies, and errors.
2. Translating Project
The scoring is based on the following:
a. General comprehension
b. Word choice
c. Sentence construction
d. Translating Strategy
e. Originality
3. Mid-term and Final Tests
The scoring is based on the type of the tests, such as multiple-choice and/or fill-in type.
