BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT VENTILATION SYSTEM
INTRODUCTION
(Only for aircraft equipped with Class-C Baggage Compartment).
The baggage compartment ventilation system has the function of
ventilating the baggage compartment.
DESCRIPTION
The baggage compartment ventilation system has a baggage
compartment fan which draws air from the baggage compartment,
discharging it to the rear electronic compartment.
The air passes the compartments through check valves, installed in
the bulkheads.
The baggage compartment fan operates in low speed while the
aircraft is on the ground, and operates at high speed while the aircraft
is in flight.
The baggage compartment fan turns off if the baggage compartment
smoke detection system detects smoke in the compartment.

AMBIENT AIR CHECK VALVE
The check valve prevents reverse flow into the baggage compartment
when the respective ventilation fan is off. It is a spring-loaded flapper
valve, in stainless steel, with 3 inches in diameter.
The valve consists of a body, two semicircular flaps, a hinge pin, and
a helical torsion spring.
The valve has a positioner pin to prevent wrong assembly.
The figure BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT VENTILATION - CHECK
VALVE LOCATIONS shows the installation of the check valve.

OPERATION
With the aircraft on the ground, the baggage compartment fan is
energized at low speed. DC Bus 2 supplies the baggage fan through
a circuit breaker.
With the aircraft in flight, the fan is energized in the high speed mode.
When smoke is detected by the two baggage smoke detectors, the
baggage fan is deenergized.
A baggage smoke detector test switch, located on the maintenance
panel, allows the smoke detector to be tested.
The baggage smoke alarm message is tested by the fire det test
switch, located on the overhead panel.
The baggage compartment extinguishing system is described in
Chapter 26-00.
The figure BAGGAGE COMPARTMENT VENTILATION - FAN
OPERATION shows the fan operation.
