Bodywork
The Mercedes-Benz Vito panel van has a wheelbase of
3000 mm and a vehicle height of just 1890 mm. The body is a
monocoque design with attachment parts bolted on. The
frame/floor unit consists of cross and side members which
are integrated into the body. A low drag coefficient of 0.34 Cd
is similar to that of a car. The body shell structure was
designed to meet the most stringent demands on safety.
Doors
Hinged doors located behind the front axle on the drivers and
passengers sides make entry and exit very easy. Lateral
sliding doors on both sides maximise cargo area access. The
large tailgate, which opens to an angle of 83, allows effortless
moving of cargo. Optional rear barn doors which open to 180
are also available, allowing fork-lift loading with ease.

Cab/Seats
The driver and passenger seat upholstery is less sentitive to
dirt and hard-wearing for everyday use with breathing
fabric covers and are adjustable in four directions. Walkthrough access to the cargo area is easy due to no intrusion
of gear lever.
Heating/Ventilation
A finely adjustable temperature control with a four speed fan
help maintain cabin comfort. By activating the residual heat
storage system, air enters when the engine is still warm and
the ignition key is removed, this allows the interior to remain
warm for approximately 30 minutes.
Instruments
The instrument panel comprises the speedometer, tachometer,
trip metre, dash-dimmer facilities, fuel gauge, outside
temperature gauge and digital clock as well as warning/
indicator lights for turn signals. A central display keeps the
driver informed of driving and engine operating status. The gear
shift lever is located in the centre of the dashboard.

Suspension
On the front axle, springing and damping functions are
performed by McPherson struts which also feature link
points for the stabiliser. On the rear axle, the springing
consists of coil springs and separate shock absorbers.
Independent suspension is standard on all wheels.
Brakes
The Mercedes-Benz Vito is equipped with a dual-circuit
hydraulic brake system with disc brakes on all four wheels
(ventilated on the front axle). Brake disc diameter is 276 mm
on the front and 280 mm on the rear. The Vito is also fitted
with a duo-servo parking brake, separate from the service
brake and acting on the rear wheels.
