Likely Reasons of Escalation of Terror Related Activities and

Fidayeen Attacks by Pakistan

Introduction
Mohammad Usman, a Pakistani militant from Faisalabad, belonging to the military wing
of Lashkar-e- Taiba (LeT) militant outfit has been captured alive on 05 August 2015.
This 20 year old happens to be the second Pakistani militant to have been captured
alive after Ajmal Kasab, the lone 26/11 attacker, who was subsequently convicted and
hanged to death.
At the time of his capture, Usman was said to be under the influence of drugs and was
giving conflicting statements to confuse the security forces, as is the standard practice
and training of such militants.
However, the specific evidences being provided by him, like an account of his training,
and arming of other terrorists along with him at Mussafarabad in POK, etc, will serve as

a concrete proof of an undeniable hand of Pakistan army and ISI in sponsoring

terrorism from its soil.
Events Leading to the Capture of Usman
At least four terrorists hurled grenades and fired at a BSF convoy when it reached
Samroli near Udhampur, about 85km from Jammu, on the way to Srinagar, that left two
BSF soldiers dead and nearly a dozen wounded.
In the retaliatory firing by the BSF personnel, Usmans partner was shot dead and he
himself fled towards a village in the hills. On reaching the village, he took three civilians
as hostage in a school and forced them to give him food.
Meanwhile a joint operation was launched by the security forces to seek the militants
that had fled. Usman forced his hostages to guide him through the forest area. As the
security forces were hot on his pursuit he became anxious and taking advantage of his
nervousness, the civilian hostages over powered him and he was finally nabbed by the
security forces.
After his capture, he told the media that he entered the Jammu region 12 days ago
along with another militant, who was identified as Momin Khan. Khan was killed in
retaliatory fire by the BSF.
Usman, appeared totally calm and composed. In his brazen statements he said that he
had come to India to kill Hindus and added without any remorse that there was fun in
doing what he was doing.
Likely Reasons of Escalation of Terror Related Activities and Fidayeen Attacks
The present Fidayeen attack follows closely at the heels of the 27 July audacious
Fidayeen attack at a Police station at Dinanagar area of Gurdaspur in Punjab, which
had resulted in killing of seven people, including a superintendent of police, and injuring
many others.
In both the cases, the security forces were targeted, with a likely aim to boost the
morale of local militant cadres and revive militancy in J&K which has almost completely
lost physical participation of local youngsters.
The recent meeting between PM Narendra Modi and PM Nawaz Sharif at Ufa, Russia,
on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, which had led to the release of an official bold
Joint Statement, has activated various Pakistani state and not state actors that do not
want peace to prevail.

Consequently, there has been incessant and unprovoked firing by Pakistan troops along
the International Border and the Line of Control. Pakistan sponsored terrorists have
attacked innocent civilians in Kashmir despite the ongoing holy and fasting month of
Ramadan.
Another agenda of these elements appears to be, derailment of the meeting between
Indias National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and his Pakistani counterpart, Sartaj Aziz,
scheduled to be held in New Delhi on 23-24 August 2015 by creating a hostile
environment, not conducive to any meaningful discussion.
Further, on 28 July, an apparent Islamic State recruitment document was found
in Pakistans Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA), which reveals that the
extremist group has grand ambitions of building a new terrorist army in Afghanistan and
Pakistan, to trigger a war in India, with a view to provoke an Armageddon-like end of
the world.
US military analysts have suggested that the aim behind striking in India would be, to
magnify the Islamic States stature and threaten the stability of the region. Thereby, the
Islamic State would provoke a combined retaliation from US / NATO, resulting in further
reuniting the Islamic world.
The recent two Fidayeen attacks may be an exploratory exercise executed on behest of
ISI by the most reliable and potent militant wing of Pakistan army, i.e. Lashkar-e- Taiba.
Conclusion
A high alert has been sounded and a man hunt is on to get the militants that have
escaped. A detailed interrogation of Md Usman will reveal the nefarious intentions of the
group that had infiltrated. An attack on the Amarnath Yatra is believed to be one of the
motives of the militants.
The dangerous way, in which the events of the recent times are unfolding, Indian
government and security forces need to be highly cautious and proactive to be prepared
to face all kinds of eventualities.
