“Delightful Desires of the Heart”

Memory Verses: Psalm 37: 4-5

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the
Lord; trust in him, and he will act.”

Heart’s desires are important. Psalm 37:4 says that if you delight in the Lord, He will give you
the desires of your heart. The key follows in verse 5, committing your way to God, trusting Him W e d n e s d ay
and waiting for Him to show you the way.

As a young mother I felt I didn’t have enough hours to do everything I needed to and was
overcommitted to many things. And not all of them were faith-centered or even things I’d
prayed about. So my dilemma challenged my family life and my faith. In my experience, until I
was able to surrender those things I thought I wanted in my life, and until I prayed for God to
show me what He wanted for me, my heart’s desires were unfulfilled. If I’d prayed over Psalm
37:5 and committed my way to the Lord, my plans would have reflected His plans for me.

Do you feel at loose ends or overcommitted to things demanding too much of you? You
might need to ask God to show you if the choices you’ve made are ones He wants for you. In T h u r s d ay
Jeremiah 29:11,13 (NIV) God promises - “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future…. You will
seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Your future is in His hands.

If you don’t feel fulfilled, ask God what it is He’s planned for you. Seeking what God wants for
your life can be a turning point in your faith and your trust in Him. When you commit your life
into His hands and trust in Him, He will not disappoint you. It just might bump your faith up to
a new high as He gives you your heart’s desires. As Corrie Ten Boom wrote, “Let God’s promises
shine on your problems.”

My life today is exciting as I delight in the Lord. Psalm 1:2a shows the blessing of following the F r i d ay
Lord: “They delight in doing everything the Lord wants; day and night they think about his
law.” (NLT) Delighting in Him is a measure of obedience as well as a matter of devotion. I know
He is faithful, patient and loving beyond measure. I’m thankful for the ways He’s corrected,
blessed, warned and strengthened me as my Savior and Lord. And He is giving me the desires
of my heart!

Lord, My future is in Your hands and Your love for me a constant blessing. I commit my ways to
You and trust You to give me the desires of my heart. Amen.
