ThroughthecourseofafouryearNSFproject,we
interviewedover140engineersandconductedcase
studiesofsixengineeringfirmsfromvarying
industries.Over2000engineersorengineering
graduatesalsorespondedtosurveys.Allofthisdata
enabledustodrawconclusionsaboutthewaysof
thinking,skills,valuesandidentitiesofpracticing
engineers.Thisreportonproblemsolvingisoneofa
seriesofbriefreportsonideasforfurtherenhancing
theconnectionbetweenengineeringcoursesand
engineeringpractice.
