RFX TUTORIAL PROCESSING EXTERNAL AUDIO

The value of an ULTRA sampler in your studio or live rig has just gone through the roof!
Once you add the RFX-32 upgrade to your ULTRA sampler, you can apply effects to the
audio coming into the stereo sampling input jacks through the RFX. You can also use the
AES/EBU stereo digital input [optional (model# 6862) for E5000/6400]. On top of that,
two more upgrades can be installed for additional inputs; the 24-BIT - 4 ANALOG
INPUT option (model# 6868) and the 24-BIT - 8 INPUT/16 OUTPUT ADAT option
(model# 6866). With both options added, your sampler has...16 inputs! Now why would a
sampler need 16 inputs?...Thanks for asking!
Now, you can input 16 audio sources (as 8 stereo pairs), each pair routed to an
independent RFX Bus! Think of the possibilities:

Route 8 tracks digitally from your ADAT through the RFX.

"How To Do It" in-depth tutorial covering every button press and edit.
PREPARATIONS: Start with an empty bank in your sampler, MASTER button, F2
(Bank), F1 (Erase), and F6 (Ok). Connect an audio source (Guitar, Bass, CD player, etc.)
to the stereo sampling input jacks of the sampler. Next we'll check/set the gain level:
Press the Sample MANAGE button, then F3 (New). Make sure that the SOURCE setting
(upper right) is Analog (22,44 or 48 kHz-unimportant), and that MONITOR setting
(lower left) is ON. Play audio and check the level meter. Cursor to ADC Gain at the
bottom of the screen and dial a boost (or cut) so that input will meter about 2/3rds of the
way. Now we're ready to begin.
The Processes Involved

1. Press MASTER button, then F4 (FX), F3 (Setup), F6 (Ext.In). On screen should
be the RFX External Inputs page, listing all inputs (even if not installed), and their
Bus assignments. The choices for each input pair are: Main, Buses 1-12, GFX1,

2. At the top of the screen is the current BUS being edited. If it's not already on
screen, cursor to that parameter and dial to Bus 1. For this tutorial, we will work
with 1 Bus with multiple effects. The screen also displays 3 of the 6 effect presets
for that BUS. Cursor to the #1 effect and dial until you find an effect that suits
you. Cursor down to repeat this for effect #2, 3, all the way to #6 if you want.
Don't edit them yet.
3. Press EXIT button, it will write the RSetup and bring you to the RFX Setup
Manage screen. Name your setup by pressing F2 (Name). Press F6 (OK) when
finished. Press MASTER button to exit the editing mode.
