WHATS NEW FOR DATAMINE STUDIO MR24

This release includes many updates in response to feedback from previous versions. In addition,
there are functional changes which are particularly significant:

Main Messages for this version of Datamine Studio

New!! Uniform Conditioning Functions
Uniform Conditioning in Studio 3 helps you to optimize the accuracy of
your predicted recoverable resource estimates and access the
information you have available regarding recoveries predicted at the
mining (SMU) scale. See your online Help for more information (Using
Studio 3 | Grade Estimation | Uniform Conditioning).

New!! Extended Foreign Character Support

Studios clients can now use foreign (non UK/US) characters in many
more areas of the system than previously possible, including data values,
file and project names, plot items and dialogs.

New!! Wireframe Thickness Calculations (including True Thickness)

The Calculate Wireframe Volume, Grid DTM and intersect-drillholeswireframes commands have been extended to provide support for
vertical, horizontal and true wireframe thickness calculations.

New!! Improvements to the Calculate Volume command

Now supports keyfields, for per-domain, per-level etc. reporting
Now allows writing of the volume calculation data to an output table
Can optionally write key calculations back to the wireframe triangles, e.g.
thickness, areas, azimuth and dip.

New!! Create Isoshells Variogram Support

The popular isoshell generation routine now includes support for a custom
variogram parameter file, permitting a wider range of grade shell
scenarios.

New!! Line Charts

Studios scatter plot options have been extended to allow the creation of
compelling line charts, including spline fitting.

New!! PDF3D Output Improvements to Handle Larger Animations

Studio's PDF3D output function has been improved to allow for export of
more complex animations and a significant reduction in resulting PDF file
size over the previous version.

New!! Synchronised VR String Coloring Options

Strings in the VR window can now automatically link the colours of their
lines and symbols, so that changes can be made more easily.

New!! Divide Wireframes Enhancement

Studios powerful command to divide wireframes by existing strings has
been extended even further to provide an optimised solutions when using
outlines, including support for nested strings and also to allow you to
specify an INSIDE parameter to explicitly define an internal boundary.

Important Fix in this version:

In the last release of Studio an error was introduced which will often reset the ST1PAR3 (and other
ST?PAR3s) to 1 during variogram modelling. This was intended to only happen for 2D variograms (to
make the output consistent with other variogram processes), but often happens with 3D variograms
as well. This release fixes that issue.

TECHNICAL NOTE: USING STUDIO WITH NON US/UK CHARACTERS

Studio MR24 allows non-US/UK characters to be used in the following situations:

Project paths and names

File names
Text columns/fields
Plot item text boxes and similar

Although it is possible to also use non-US/UK characters in field/column names, this is not
fully supported at this time, and its use is not recommended.

Setting non-US/UK language support

Region Settings
In order to provide backwards compatibility of DM format files, Studio makes use of the
current Windows Code Page to tell it which language to expect. This code page can be set in
the operating systems Regional settings, so please check your operating systems help file
for exact steps for the version you are using.

Example of Windows 8.1 Region Settings

More information on the code pages currently supported by Microsoft Operating Systems can
be found at the following website:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-gb/goglobal/bb964654.aspx

Environment Files
In addition to the regional settings, some processes require that an option is turned on in the Studio
Environment Files in order to use non UK/US text data. In these cases an environment file should
contains the appropriate SEC_CHAR_SET entry, e.g.:

SEC_CHAR_SET = RUSSIAN (set automatically for the Russian version of Studio)

SEC_CHAR_SET = INTERNAT
SEC_CHAR_SET = GREEK
(This setting is only required for non US/UK text data attributes; it is not needed for filenames, project
names, or plot items etc.)

Portability of Data Files

Since DM files use the Windows Code Page to specify how the characters should be interpreted,
characters in a DM file may appear differently if read on a computer with different Region Settings to
where it was created. For DM files which move between language regions, it is recommended that
only UK/UK characters are used in text fields.

COMPDH now correctly honours the @MINCOMP parameter to

ensure that composites will store an Absent value for a composite
which is dominated by Absent values along its length.
An error introduced in last release which often caused the ST1PAR3
to be reset to 1 has now been rectified. This parameter is now only
reset to 1 with 2D variograms.

The Define Holes process will now only compute holes when
explicitly requested by the user. Previously, the calculation was
performed automatically after each data table specification.
The intersect-drill-wireframes command has been extended to allow
additional attributes to be written to the created intersection points.
These include wireframe attributes, downhole distance, entry/exit
flags and various wireframe thickness calculations. Intersection points
may also now be limited only to entry and/or exits points.
It is now possible to automatically synchronize the line and symbol
colors in the VR window for string data.
Studio now produces significantly smaller PDF3D animated files.
The system will now display a warning if the graphics hardware fails
to have the required capabilities for the new symbol display.

clipping is unavailable on the active section (usually because the
section is hidden)
You can now update VR objects from script without enabling the VR
window.
The VR window no longer flashes when being used on Windows 8, or
on Windows 7 with Desktop Composition enabled.
