CUOMO AND DE BLASIO ARE FEUDING, AND IT HURTS,

NEW YORK STATE VOTERS TELL QUINNIPIAC UNIVERSITY POLL;
GOVERNORS JOB APPROVAL SLUMP CONTINUES
New York State voters say 57 15 percent, including 61 21 percent among New York City
voters, that Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio are engaged in a political feud and
not effectively working together for the public good, according to a Quinnipiac University poll
released today.
Among voters who say there is a feud, 78 percent say it is harmful to the people of New
York State, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds.
Voters statewide who say there is a feud say 61 9 percent, including 67 8 percent
among New York City voters, that Cuomo is winning.
De Blasio did not work hard enough to convince state lawmakers to enact legislation
important to New York City, 35 percent of voters statewide say, while 32 percent say Cuomo
undermined de Blasios efforts. New York City voters are divided as 39 percent blame de Blasio
and 38 percent blame Cuomo.
The governor more closely represents their political views, 28 percent of New York State
voters say, while 15 percent line up with de Blasio and 53 percent say neither official represents
their views. Among New York City voters, 28 percent side with Cuomo and 26 percent line up
with de Blasio, while 43 percent say neither.
The squabble between Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio
isnt just media hype; its real, voters say, and it's harmful to everyone in the state, said Maurice
Carroll, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.
As political referees, voters overwhelmingly pick Cuomo as the winner.
As government observers, voters are divided. Whos to blame for the legislative session
that left the city wish-list short? Cuomo undermined de Blasio, says about a third of voters.
De Blasio didnt work hard enough, says another third. The rest dont know or dont care.

Theres no improvement in the governor's split job approval. But Cuomo out-points de
Blasio on favorability among both city and state voters, Carroll added.
New York State voters give Gov. Cuomo a 43 43 percent job approval rating, compared
to a 44 42 percent score in a June 3 Quinnipiac University poll, and Cuomos lowest grade
ever.
Cuomo gets a 45 43 percent favorability rating among voters statewide, compared to a
negative 23 46 percent rating for de Blasio. New York City voters give Cuomo a 55 30
percent positive rating, compared to a negative 37 49 percent for de Blasio.
Education and ethics are Cuomos big negatives as voters look at how he handles issues:

Negative 32 52 percent for handling ethics;

Negative 33 54 percent for handling education;
Split 40 42 percent for handling the state budget;
47 32 percent for handling energy and the environment;
Split 46 44 percent for handling the economy and jobs.
New York State voters approve 41 19 percent of the job State Comptroller Thomas

DiNapoli is doing and approve 49 23 percent of State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
From September 10 15, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,366 New York State voters
with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell
phones.
