Procedure:
1. Label each 5 beakers with the following: A, B, C.
2. Fill the beaker A, B and C with hydrochloric acid, distilled water and potassium
hydroxide solution respectively.
3. Cut the silver, copper, aluminium, zinc, and steel wires into small pieces using a
scissors and clean the metals by using sandpaper.
4. Weigh the initial mass of 5 type of metals by using electronic balance.
5. Put the 5 type of metals into beakers A and at the same time start the digital
watch.
6. After 30 minutes, take out all the metals from the beakers by using a clamp and
weigh the final mass of each metals by electronic balance.
7. Repeat step (4) and repeat the experiment by putting the 5 type of metals into
beakers B after taking its mass and at the same time start the digital watch.
8. Repeat Step (6) after 30 minutes.
9. Repeat step (4) and repeat the experiment by putting the 5 type of metals into
beakers C after taking its mass and at the same time start the digital watch.
10. Repeat Step (6) after 30 minutes.
11. Record the initial mass and final mass of each metals in a table for each
experiments and calculate the rate of corrosion.
