COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Course Description: Conceptual Imagery is the mental representation of concepts in the
conscious mind. This class will take the thoughts and transform them through a mix medium
art with a street eclectic style. This will consist of a base canvas, different types of paint
mediums (spray paint and acrylics). We will walk through some creative exercises and then
get into a fun but informative project. Each week we will begin a new project and with new
exercises for the class. It’s all about the concept of the different elements and the imagination
that you have for art. Student will learn about proper color choices, balance of images and
space, and many more key aspects of art.

STUDENT LEARNING OBJECTIVES:


The student will know, comprehend, and apply normative principles of Color/Light.
This will include:
⋅ the introduction of common terms and concepts of drawing, paintings, color and space
⋅ the understanding of common terms and concepts of drawing, paintings, color and space
⋅ the use of common terms and concepts of drawing, paintings, color and space

The student will know, comprehend, and apply foundational aspects of drawing, paintings,
color and space through the different processes of art.
This will include:
⋅ the introduction of the drawing and paintings process methods and procedures
⋅ the application of drawing process in 2D design problem solving
⋅ the use of critical thinking to develop painting process methods

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:


The student through studio exercises, studio projects and class critiques will learn principles,
processes, and precedence learning outcomes will be realized through:
⋅ solving of 2D and 3D drawing and painting problems
⋅ visual composition using 2D and 3D Color Design Principles
⋅ visual presentation of 2D and 3D Color drawing, paintings, color and space process and
solution
⋅ verbal presentation of 2D and 3D drawing, paintings, color and space problems
Required Supplies:
⋅ Small sketch pad – 11” x 14” or larger (Bristol or heavy weight paper)
⋅ Various pencils, pens – colored and watercolor
⋅ Acrylic paints (red, yellow, blue, white, and black) & brushes
⋅ Markers – various colors

Normative Principles of Color/Light

Light
Energy, wavelengths, particles
Colors are different wavelengths of light.

Light Primaries- Additive Color Theory-RGB (red, green, blue)


Pigment Primaries – Subtractive Color Theory- RYB (red, yellow, blue)

Color
Colors are different wavelengths of light.

⋅ Hue
Hue refers to the wavelength of the color. Black, gray, and white are neutrals (without
color).
Hue is the name of a color.
⋅ Value
Value is the color’s lightness/darkness. Each color has a full range of values from the
lightest tints to the darkest shades.
⋅ Saturation
Saturation is the purity of a color’s hue. A color with pure saturation contains no white,
black, or third primary mixtures. Color wheel colors.

The Interaction of Color


Analogous, Complementary, Split Complementary, Monochromatic, Achromatic, Triad, and
Tetrad Harmonies (juxtaposition)
