1 Introduction
Today there are a large number of alternative therapies. How to patient chooses a
specific therapy may depend on various factors. It could be to attach importance to
therapy form should be as natural as possible. For some, a spiritual aspect to be
important, or there must be scientifically sustainable and widely accepted in society.
One can also see the choice of therapy in a simpler way. If a friend has recovered, or
significantly better at a particular therapist, then seek to this form of treatment for their own
trouble. Needles, pills, prayers or foot bath, just my allergies disappear!
Many forms of therapy may be beyond one's normal perception of reality. The
can often be difficult to understand the conditions for the therapy. A fundamental reason for the
it is so difficult to understand and compare various therapies is that they rely on their very own
theories of reality and the peculiar methods.
Since I have studied homeopathy and worked with this system, I can not avoid
see many similarities between acupuncture and homeopathy. If we assume that both
forms of therapy are effective, there must be something common in them. The techniques are different;
but the results can be just as good. The universe and the laws of nature are the same for everyone,
therefore,
then the two institutions touch upon the same mechanisms in the human being and nature of the

can bring the sick on the road to health.

One can not compare acupuncture and homeopathy immediately, as these systems are so different that
they can be represented as different paradigms. A paradigm is a delineation of their own
research with sets of assumptions and truths that provides logic inside their own area. By studying and
comparing the individual basic elements shell I try to find out the extent to acupuncture and homeopathy
differ from each other and to find any similarity.
2. Historical Background
Historically, both acupuncture and homeopathy a long history. Liangyue et al.
in the book Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion (1999) a several thousand-year long
history of acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. Already in the elderly
Stone Age says that it used stone knives and other utensils for different therapeutic
purposes. Around the 3000 year old hieroglyphs on the legs and skldpaddeskal describes acupuncture
and moxibustion. Bian- stones shaped like needles were long in use, but since
bronze and later iron was in use shows up needles of metal. For example,
mentioned that a grave dated 113 BC contained four needles of gold and silver 5.
The historical account of the book Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion shows that
the development of traditional Chinese medicine enjoyed a high reputation and support
society's higher classes. It has been emperors and highly regarded physician who has been responsible for
the development of this medical system. One of the most important publications still have
great importance to the traditional Chinese medicine is Neijing Suwen, or Yellow
Emperor classic medicine. The Yellow Emperor Huang Di, who lived in the third
century BC regarded as having been responsible for this work. (Liangyue et al.1999)
Throughout history, acupuncture had a relatively safe place in Chinese culture and
Society. Naturally enough, there have been various schools in relation to what the current
ages have had for the conditions. During the British rule in China was considered the traditional
medicine as unchristian and dangerous. When the communists took over and got the traditional
Chinese medicine with acupuncture a renaissance and has since occupied an important position in
China's culture. (Liangyue et al.1999)
In the article "Outline of the history of acupuncture in Europe" in the Journal of Chinese Medicine,
Elisabeth Hsu describes how Europe several times received influences from the Chinese
medicine.
The Dutch doctor W. Ten Rhyne considered the first who has carefully
described acupuncture. The word "acupunctura" occurs for the first time in his writing
"Dissertatio the Arthritide; Mantissa Schematica; The Acupunctura; et Orationes Tres "

published in 1683. (Hsu, 1989)
In Frank Reich would be by the Jesuits get descriptions of this Chinese medicine.
In the "Descriptions Geographique, Historique, Chronologique, Politique et de Physique
L'Empire de la Chine et de la Tartarie Chilean "(1735) finds a detailed
Description of Chinese medicine with the meridians, pulse diagnosis and descriptions of herbs.
At the beginning of the 1800s had been a period when acupuncture was popular. There were many
Doctor Frank Reich who practiced acupuncture and from there it spread to Germany,
England and Italy. But this period was short. In France it was initially helped by

a positive approach to experimenting with new methods of treatment, but interest

cooled in connection with a change in social development. In Germany
coincided introduction of acupuncture to homeopathy. Homeopathy was considered a
scientifically robust and secure method, while it was believed that acupuncture had not
sufficient solid theoretical base. So acupuncture popularity declined rapidly.
The problem was that many doctors use needles, but with inadequate knowledge. The most
widespread was the "locus dolendi" principle, to put needles in areas of pain or
symptoms without the use of traditional Chinese medical theory. A brutal treatment method
that was not beneficial to the patient. (Hsu, 1989)
An important figure for Europe acupuncture was the French Georges Soulie de Morant. As
Consul of Yunnan-fu (Kunming), he was witness to how patients treated during a
Cholera epidemic i1908. Once back in France, he began translating Chinese classic
writings and teaching acupuncture. Unfortunately, his translations are colored by his
own perceptions. His performance led to more than 30 acupuncture associations in France, and
later in 1940 founded the National Association AFA and keeping multiple
international congresses. Germany got its national association in 1951 and England started
their national association in the 1960s. (Hsu, 1989)
In the same way you can in American history find many early practitioners of traditional
Chinese medicine, so it did not at all with Kissinger's visit to China in 1972.
Homeopathy has a long history. It has in Norway been working for the integration of
serious forms of therapy in the public health care. The Norwegian government website
are descriptions of the various alternative forms of treatment. The quote below explains briefly
homeopathy history and basic principle.
"It homopatiske prinsipp you described the reef allerede the old Indian, greske, Chinese og
jdiske writings. Hippocrates postulerte at sykdom elimineres gjennom midler which can
fremkalle lignende symptoms . Paracelsus hevdet ogs at 'the same may helbredes
at once : similia similibus curentur . Paracelsus was skeptical til the Roman
legen Galen Medisinske theories, blant Annet his hovedprinsipp contraria contra propriis.
Contraria-prinsippet dominerer continued current skolemedisinske thought og innebrer
use of medisiner as Forer til a tilstand as your opposite of sykdommens
hovedsymptomer. (NOU 1998: 21)
Konstantions KONSTANTOPOULOS gives us a glimpse of Hippocrates (about 460 f. Kr -370 f. Kr)

Page 9

role as the founder of homeopathy. It is precisely Hippocrates cited with: "Omoia
Omoiois Eisin Iamata "who becomes the famous Latin quotation" Simila similibus curentum ";
in Swedish: "like cures like".
Hippocrates believed to be behind the contents of the book "If nature". It describes how to
treating disease with the opposite and cure to that similar to the natural
disease. (KONSTANTOPOULOS 2004.)
Aristotle further Hippocrates thoughts, and Herbert A. Roberts's book, we find the following
Translation:
"If simile acts upon simile, the result of this mutual action Reveals itself into
neutralization, annihilation of the original Qualities and the production of another state,
Which is exactly Contrary to the previous one ... If the simile of the remedy acts upon

The simile of the disease, the result of this mutual action is neutralization, annihilation
of the original Qualities, viz. of the pathopoiesis of the remedy and of the
pathogenesis of the organism, and change into the Contrary state, viz. Health. "
(Roberts, page 103. 1942/1985)
KONSTANTOPOULOS out that Hippocrates uses many elements reminiscent of
Chinese vision. The four elements of earth, water, air and fire are used to describe the
natural environment. Briefly, we can say that the four liquids blood, phlegm, black bile, and
yellow bile corresponds with the disease. Combinations of different natural elements gives back
descriptions that correlates with the temperaments. The song whiz type is a combination
by fire and water, which also belong to the spring. The phlegmatic type is a combination of
water and air, and correspond with the winter. The choleric type is a combination of

Page 10

fire and earth, and correspond to the summer. The melancholic type is a combination
of earth and fire, and corresponds to the fall. You can find other contexts as: soil senses, water -knslor, air -ilska, fire - knowledge.
(KONSTANTOPOULOS 2004.)
Maciocia (2011) also describes the similarity between Aristotle and the Chinese perception of
basic elements. ".
.is very similar to the Chinese one, in Which the elements are Qualities
of Nature. Further More, it is interesting to note the similarity with the Chinese theory of
Yin-Yang: The Four Arestotelian elements derive from the interaction of the basic yin-yang
Qualities of cold-hot and dry-wet. ".
(Maciocia page xx, 2011)
Hippocrates problem was that he had the principle, but not the tools to deal with
simila principle. Treatment with like-prinsipen meant to be balanced between
therapeutic dose and toxic dose. There are several examples of how he could use
similar principle.
The next took up the thread where the physician Paracelsus (from 1493 to 1541). Based on their
studies he launched the doctrine of signatures. It has eftertid become distorted and ridiculous made, but
His main point was that the effects we saw in nature could be utilized in the treatment of
man. An herb that could cause diarrhea if ingested, was the signature needed
treating a human with a similar diarrhea. Toxicology became a rich source for
medicine. Flower Digitalis gave including bradycardia effect, and it was
signature / indication to strengthen a patient suffering from heart failure with low pulse and

Page 11

associated lung problems.
Paracelsus method worked best as long as he himself treated. The problem was that the
Hippocrates, the dosage is often balanced subtle between therapy and poisoning.
the principle of equality was down to Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) continued to conduct research on
that he would call for homeopathy (homoios; like + pathos, suffering). With its
thinners he tried to avoid the problems of toxicity. To own surprise, discovered

he effect of the substances rose during the special thinner through it

homeopathy unique potentieringsmetoden.
(Lockie, 2001)
Despite strong opposition from the conventional medical sources, had eg in the US in 1900
the early 22 homeopathic -Medical schools, more than 100 homeopathic hospitals, over
60 homes for orphans and old people's homes, as well as over 1,000 homeopathic pharmacies. But it
new century brought with it a continual decline in the status of homeopathy. Around 1950
became the last homeopathic school (college) closed. Now it was just 50-150 homeopaths
active.
In most countries in Europe, Eastern Europe, and South America, one sees similar conflict between
conventional medicine and homeopathy.
But there are reasons. In Europe, e.g. the British royal family is now in 160 years has been
Patron of the Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital.
Nowadays it seems to be greater acceptance of complementary therapies including
doctor than before.
In today's India, we find 120 four- or five-year homeopathy courses. 19 of the schools

Page 12

run by the Indian government, and most are associated with universities. There is
estimated over 100,000 practicing homeopaths in India. As it says in an article
World Health Forum:
"In the Indian subcontinent the legal position of the practitioners of homeopathy HAS BEEN
elevated to a professional level similar to That of a medical practitioner. "
One reason is Mahatma Ghandi's words: "(Homeopathy) .. cures a Greater Number of People
than any other method of treatment, "
(Ullman. Www. Homeopathic.com)

3. Problems Specification
At a first glance at acupuncture and homeopathy gives the impression that it is quite different
system. Acupuncture principle is the yin and yang of apparent opposites in
treatment principle.
In Neijing Suwen we see that the deficit should be strengthened, the excess shall be attenuated and we
can read
quotes like:
"Anger can injure the liver, but sadness can relieve indicates", and
"The heart ...., but too much joy can cause a depletion of the heart qi. This Can Be
counterbalanced by fear. "
(Ni. Page 20 ca. 100 BCE / 1995)
In short, seeks to balance by bringing the opposite or strengthening what is in
shortage.

Page 13

13
Homeopathy on its side has the principle of equality as a fundamental element. The main axiom is
to treat with the "equal". A substance which in a healthy person gives some
symptoms / reactions, would be able to have a curative effect on a patient with similar natural
symptoms. Hahnemann writes in 26:
"A weaker dynamic affection is permanently extinguished in the living organism by a
stronger one, if the latters (whilst differing in kind) is very similar to the forms in its
manifestations. "
(Hahnemann. Page 110. 1921/1988)
Acupuncture operates with tangible herbs, needles, copper and other methods, while
Typically homeopathic way is to use thinned and potentiated the medicines
which provides a more immaterial impression.
It may therefore seem as if it is a diametric difference in theory between acupuncture and
homeopathy.
I want to try and look at the basic elements of these two forms of treatment for
To find out how far or close they are to each other.
The concepts I will consider is acupuncture Qi, Yin - Yang, disease, and perception of health.
I compare that with counterparts in homeopathy in terms vital force, primary secondary effect as well as the perception of health and illness. In the end, I see brief on how this
affect treatment.

4. Qi and vital force
4. Qi and vital force
4. Qi and vital force
4. Qi and vital force
Qi is understood that both simple and complicated at the same time. According Maciocia is
all manifestations of qi. The difference is the level of materialisation. In the body seen
the scale of the whole property, such as body fluids, to something as ethereal as
mind, shen. The all-encompassing role that Qi has been doing it s hard here in the West to find a
translation that describes the concept adequately. Words like energy, vitality, etc. limits
more than it describes.
Qi is because the team for all manifestations of life such as animals, plants and minerals. The Qi is both
and through the rivers all coming nicely presented in the words of Wang Chong (27 -97 BC.):
"When it
came to separation and differentiation, the pure (element) formed heaven, and the turbid
ones formed earth. "
(Maciocia page 42. 2005)
In the case of Q's role in the living organism gives the same Wang Chong a
illustration. He compares the body with water and ice.
"As water freezes into ice, so Qi coagulates to form the human body. When ice melts, it
Becomes water. When a person dies, he or she Becomes spirit (shen) again. It is called
Spirit, just as melted ice changes its name to water. "
Everything in nature is thus only different levels of Qi.
Qi have different roles in different parts of the organism or the wild. Frequently concept is Wei Qi,

Zong - Qi, lung - Qi, liver - Qi, etc. These can be used to describe the quantity of Qi,
but also how the body works.

Page 15
15
(Ibid. Page 42)
Homeopathy has a shallow well in the strictly religious 1700s Europe, and in a Newtonian
scientific explanation. A fact which unfortunately has been forgotten during the
dubious renaissance that homeopathy received during 1980 and -90 century green movement in the
Nordic countries.
In some of the older books, we see the religiously correct duality of body and soul.
But when studying the text, one senses a deeper role for the vital force. This vital force
described by different names such as Vital Force, The vital principle or Dynamis. Key is
movement and adaptation. Herbert A. Roberts describes in his book The Principles and Art of
Cure by Homeopathy a altomfattande force;
"Astronomy and mathematics, viewed in the light of the whole vision of the vital energy are
Essentially a partial proof of the omnipresence of the vital energy as being the moving Energy,
the activating Power of the Universe. "
(Roberts, page 49. 1942/1985)
Furthermore, he pointed out that even a dead man, dead plants and soil in a continuous
movement. Vital Force yourselves therefore like Qi a continuous movement that is and in all of our world,
both live as "dead" material.
Hahnemann writes in his Organon paragraph 10:
"The material organism, without the vital force, is Capable of no sensation, no function, no
self-preservation .... the intellectual property beeing `the vital force` Which animates the material
organism in health and disease. "
(Hahnemann page 98 1921/1988)

Page 16
16
Herbert A. Roberts writes about Dynamis:
"No body, no tissue, no cell, no molecule, is independent of the activities of the others,
but the life of each one of These Elements is merged into the life of the whole. ...
(Roberts Page 35 1942/1985)
We can see that traditional Chinese medicine Qi is the same as homeopathy
Dynamis. A power of endless variations, but also the universal one that
affect and can be affected.
5. Yin
5. Yin
5. Yin
5. Yin - Yang and opposites
Yang opposites
Yang opposites
Yang opposites
If we go to Neijing Suwen we get many descriptions of Yin and Yang. A Universal

balance of opposing forces that are not absolute, but the principle is always the same. The
one decreases as the others grow - a dynamic movement.
Maciocia describes Yin -Yangs opposite but simultaneous complementary skills. The
four most important aspects of Yin and Yang is;
1. That they are in opposition to each other, as hot -Cold, night - day.
2. That they are interdependent, for without night, it would not be today.
3. That the s gensidigt immersive, as well as day gradually turns into night. The
hot day gradually goes over into cold night.
4. That you can get a transformation from one to the other. This is controlled by time and

Page 17
17
internal relationship. As an example, Maciocia egg at a certain time point
in certain circumstances, be a chicken.
(Maciocia page 11-16, 2005)
In Stuart Close's book The Genius of Homeopathy we find a compilation of
fundamental principles contained in the homeopathic paradigm. One can see that they are set up in
a Newtonian spirit:
1. The laws and ways of Nature are uniform and harmonious.
2. Effect follow cause the unbroken succession
3. To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction
4. Action and reaction are ceaseless, and equivalent resiprocal
5. Exercise is ceaseless and transformation continuous
6. Matter is indestructible and idefinitely divisible
7. Force is persistent and indestructible
8. The quantity of Action Necessary to effect any change in nature is the least
possible. (Close Side 8 1942/1985)
The similarity with the Yin Yang theory is striking. Every action has a consequence, you always get a
response, a contrast. Movement is constant, that matter is infinitely divisible, indestructible.
An important point of homeopathy is the last point; that the amount of movement has no
important to provide power.
Regarding homeopathic medicine describes Hahnemann how all drugs, medicines and
phenomenon has two effects. A primary and a secondary. Thus a reaction and a

Page 18
18
backlash.
In Organon 64 shows Hahnemann how this principle works in disease and treatment.
When the organism was first exposed / invaded by a malicious force or medicine, the first
be passive recipients and allow a primary modification of health. So will the organism
vital force to try to fight back by an opposite effect, the secondary impact.
(Hahnemann sida149. 1921/1988)
As an example, you can make it simple experiment to keep one hand in a warm bath
a certain time. Touches like a time after being hotter than the other hand, a primary effect.
After a while, want the opposite reaction come. You notice that your hand gets chillier than

"Control-hand."
The dynamic vital force comes as a contrast to the warm stimulus to lower
body temperature to prevent the primary effect. Coffee is also mentioned with his
primary invigorating effect, which then gives the opposite effect. Opiums primary narcotic
effect, providing a secondary sensitization.
(ibid. page 150-151)
That one goes in the other, as in the description of the yin-yang theory.
Modern medicine is based on the constant repetition of medicine primary
effect. You have to take blood pressure pills every day, then may have the dose increased as
vital force adapts in an effort to combat this primary effect.
Homeopathy therapy is to induce the secondary, endogenous effect. By providing a
stimuli which resemble the actual symptoms, stimulates one to the opposite that is the
opposite of the natural disease. A patient with too much heat symptoms are given a

Page 19
19
medication that is known to it in physiologic doses produce heat. Organism backlash
then becomes to lower the heat, thus the therapeutic effect we want. This is the absolute
the core of the homeopathic method. An active use of the Yin Yang principle with a
little different approach than acupuncture.
Another important axioms is that when you are sick, you are particularly sensitive to the influence of any
similar even natural disease. Therefore needed only a small impact if one has the right
medicine, according to clause 8, page 11. Stuart Close describe sensitivity to medications in the following
manner:
"The sick organism being so much more Susceptible to the similar medicine than The Well
organism, IT FOLLOWS That the size or the quantity of the dose depends overpriced upon the degree
of susceptibility of the patient. "
(Close. Page 78 1924/1985)
6. The view of disease
6. The view of disease
6. The view of disease
6. The view of disease
Acupuncture distinguishes itself by constantly take into account that organism should not be
weakened or subjected to unnecessary suffering. Fixed, major blood loss, cold baths or other
methods that can contribute to weakening the patient is avoided.
The view of the origin of the disease is quite sober and factual. The Chinese apparently simple
basically gives a close connection between a trigger and the patient's sensitivity to the right
this factor.
Kaptchuk writes in his book Chinese Medicine The Web That Has No Weaver, the cause
disharmony and illness is threefold;
environment / nature, the emotional and lifestyle of succession.

Page 20
20
On a narrower level can see the disease through various patterns. Moisture can for example provide

problem for a patient, and it is important that this moves from a humid environment. The most important
are yet to see this problem in the patient's overall configuration. Therefore, observe the
tongue, face, skin color, etc.
Kaptchuk writes:
"Dampness is just part of the picture. Other people living in the wet basement May not get
zig. ...., The doctor would try to reharmonize him or her so as to Eliminate the sensitivity to
The dampness. "
(Kaptchuk page 145. 2007)
In this occasion Kaptchuk mean that the disease is not caused by the moisture, but the disease is
moisture. The patient's problem is disharmony and sensitivity to moisture.
It is difficult to find an exact description of what the disease is in Traditional Chinese
medicine. The theme, turn quickly into the patterns and the state as such. The relationship between
nature and the organism is strong. In Neijing Suwn says:
"It is this chaos in the macrocosm That upsets the balance of the delicate ecology within
People That produces disease. "
(Ni. Page 280. 1995)
Alle natural phenomena are represented in the organism microcosm. Disease occurs when
there is an imbalance between these forces. An internal or external disturbance of Qi can lead to
disease. In Neijing Suwen We read further:

Page 21
21
"If the Qi in the channels is not orderly and rhytmic and Becomes rebellious, this will cause
Internal disharmony. Combined with pathogens from the exterior, this disharmony Creates
illness, Which in turn damages the body's balance of Yin and Yang. "
(Ibid., Page 287)
The key to understanding what the disease is thus lies in Qi, how it flows, its quantity and
how it is affected.
In the same way as traditional Chinese medicine, homeopathy opposed radical cures
and treatments that most have weakened patient. Hahnemann was a strong opponent
of bloodletting and strong medicines that could weaken the overall health. He wrote
much about contemporary medicine could weaken the patient. The reason why the drain
with a knife or leeches were so popular was that the weaker man did the patient, the fewer
Symptoms dried vital power display. The reduced enough to symptoms, but did the patient
much worse in the long run.
(Hahnemann. Page 41 1921/1988)
Stuart Close describe how the disease threatens the normal state and the normal
development:
"Disease is an abnormal vital process, a changed condition of life. Which is inimical to the
true development of the individual and tends to organic dissolution.
"
(Close. Page 60 1924/1985)
Hahnemann feels like the Chinese doctors that there is an internal vital force that keeps

Page 22

22
organism in harmony. Disease is a disturbance of the vital power. In 11 of his book
Organon he says about the disease:
"... It is only this spiritual, self-acting (automatic) vital force, everywhere present in his
organism That is Primarily deranged by the dynamic influence upon it of a morbific agent
inimical to life ... "
(Hahnemann. Page 98 1921/1985)
It is therefore a non-substantive power of the whole organism. This should keep
body healthy. If this force is subjected to a similar morbid non-substantial effect occurs
disease. Illness occurs at an energy level in the same manner as described in
Traditional Chinese Medicine. Hahnemann says that this adverse effect is invisible and can
only observed by its effect on the organism. Therefore, one can only treat a
Patient this has symptoms or signs, a change from a previous state. One
theoretical description is not enough. As in traditional Chinese medicine can not
treat from a radiograph, a western diagnostic or a blood sample. You have to
have symptoms, patterns or description of what changes are and how they are perceived by
patient. Hahnemann writes in its article 6:
"The changes in the health of the body and of the mind (morbid phenomena, accidents,
symptoms) Which can be perceived externally by means of the senses; That is to say, heh
notices only the deviations from the forms healthy state of the now diseased individual,
Which are felt by the patient himself, remarked by Those around him and observed by the
physician ...... They together form the true and only conceivable portrait of the disease.
"
(Ibid. Page 94)

Page 23
23
One can say that the two forms of therapy have quite similar views on where the interference is.
It is a fundamental disorder of qi, or vital force in its function. It is different
nomenclature, and within both the paradigm described a harmful non-material impact
that alter the normal qi, or vital energy's function.
These both forms of therapy have a holistic view of disease. The disease is not an entity
separate from the organism but an altered state that could be described at several levels.
Acupuncture describes this as the pattern while Homeopathy describes this as
disease totality.
7. Health
7. Health
7. Health
7. Health
When it comes to health, we see that acupuncture emphasizes energy flows and balance.
Qi must be adequate and unobstructed, and there should be balance / harmony of the aspects Yin and
Yang. In Neijing Suwen respond Qi Bo on how to stay healthy;
"Health and well-being Can Be Achieved only by remaining centered with one's spirit,
guarding against squandering one's energy, Maintaining the constant flow of one's qi and
Blood, Adapting to the changing seasonal and yearly macrocosmic influences, and
nourishing one's self preventively. "

(Ni, page 265.Ca 100 BC. / 1995)

In his book Chinese Medicine believes Kaptchukat that the Chinese perception of health is quite
simple, a state of equilibrium, a balance or harmony:
"It is enough to say, for instance, 'the lung in harmony administers respiration.'
(Kaptchuk. Page 75. 2007)

Page 24
24
You'll find a fairly similar description in homeopathy. In Hahnemann to Find
an almost poetic description in 9:
"In the healthy condition of man, the spiritual vital force (autocracy), the dynamis That
animates the material body (organism), rules with unbounded sway, and retains all the
parts of the organism in admirable, harmonious, vital operations, as regards bothering
sensations and functions, so That our indwelling, reason-gifted mind can freely Employ this
living, healty instrument for the higher Purposes of our existence. "
(Hahnemann. Page 98 1921/1988)
Later writers can only provide similar shorter versions of this text. Stuart Close
writes among other things:
"..harmonious Performance of the vital functions tends to the preservation of the organism
and the normal development of the individual. "
(Close. Page 60 1924/1985)
A vital force, or Qi unhindered flow through the body is a prerequisite for health,
a healthy body and a free and functioning mind.

8. The resonance and the like

Kaptchuk describes the Qi is not in itself reason to change. Changes have its cause in
Manifestations already latent in the organism. To bring about change is to
activate what is already possible.

Page 25
25
"This probability for one thing to influence another is called in Chinese Gan Ying, Which Usually
translated 'resonance' '
Further, he says:
"The Qi of illness can be transformed into healthy Qi by a medicine That resonates
Between the two Particular states. Illness contains the seed of Health. "
(Kaptchuk. Page 45. 2007)
When the organism is a microcosm - macrocosm relationship with the universe will
organism having a corresponding response manner.
Kaptchuk citing Gao Shi Zong in the book Genuine Explanations of the Yellow Emperor:
simple questions:
"Resonance is the process' by Which a thing, When stimulated, spontaneously responds
of according to naturalism guidelines of the Particular phases of the vital energy engendered in

Retweet and active in the situation, ''

(Ibid., Page. 45)
In short, it is in the sick discord latent opportunity to target health.
What is needed is a stimulus that harmonize with the patients' permission.
Resonance is also a term used in homeopathy.
George Vithoulkas in his book The Science of Homeopathy that the totality of
symptoms constitute a "frequency" medicine must comply with in order to
cured.
"To find the resonant frequency of the entire organism and there fore Strengthen the entire

dynamic planning of action, one must record the totality of all deviations from the normal on all

(Vithoulkas. Page 93. 1980)
Furthermore writes Vithoulkas organism, or part of it can be influenced, strengthened, or
weakened depending on what it is exposed. This is controlled by the degree of harmony, resonance
and the strength of the harmful or therapeutic stimuli.

Both acupuncture and homeopathy clarifies the first deviation from the healthy state of
that then affect in a way that is similar or resonate with the disease state.

Acupuncture has a fundamental balancing and harmonizing ways to treat.
The approach is often to use the opposite, for example, by strengthening and heat
what is weak and cold.
In Neijing Suwen will find description of two ways to treat:
- Zheng Zhu,
Zheng Zhu,
Zheng Zhu,
Zheng Zhu, using the opposite. Using eg salty, bitter and cold herbs
to cool down and clear up an invading Shaoyang / fire.
- Fan Zhi,
Fan Zhi,
Fan Zhi,
Fan Zhi, a method similar to the homeopathic tillnrmningsttet where symptoms similar
treatment provides a secondary desired effect .:
"... When the cause of the condition is the opposite nature to the Manifested or signs
symptoms, ... Taiyang / cold invasions manifesting fevers, the use of herbs with properties
That May be alike to the manifestations Such as sweet, pungent, and hot would be called
for. "
(Ni. Page 280. About 100 BCE. / 1995)
Samuel Hahnemann's book about homeopathy because the theory was totally revised six times,
Organon Der Homoepatie version 1-6. With German thoroughness, a review of

the theory several times afterwards as the experience and knowledge the ice became larger. Paper
Organon stands today not only as a description of homeopathy but as a
description of the healing principle. It is thus not dependent on the use of
homeopathic medicines to treat.
To illustrate the homeopathic principle, one can take an example from everyday life.
If you have received oil-based paint on their hands, a scientific approach
be to use white spirit / brush washing of hands to quickly dissolve the target color. One
Homeopathic approximation would be to take a similar oil-based substance. Rub
hands in plain butter, margarine or other mild vegetable oil. The fat will interfere
with the oil-based painting. Then just wipe away both the painting and
shortening and wash your hands with regular soap. Good for the environment and for your hands.
Another example: Man burns on one hand when taking out freshly baked cookies
of the oven. If within seconds time to cool down, to prevent a fire damage.
It is still very rare to succeed. Usually cools it down, but the damage has
already occurred. After completion of cooling, its secondary effects occur. The now
Because of the burn weaker skin with irritated nerves now wants to produce a
inflammatory-like reaction that amplifies the damage.
One wishes the reduction of the inflammatory overreaction. If, however, provides a
treatment consistent with the symptom can reach much further. The following
method is described in the Organon and has been used in homeopathic hospitals. I have
self-tried method several times with excellent results.
The damaged area is subjected to a similar new heat. One must remember that
the nerves in the area is in a very irritating condition. Therefore a much smaller degree
by heating to produce a burning sensation in the skin.
Clean hands can lower a fire damaged the finger or whole hand in lukewarm water.
By pouring the hot water, gently raise the temperature until it "bites" of
pain in the injury. When checking the water temperature with the fresh hand Tag
that it is not as hot. After a while tired of the irritated pain receptors out
the water feels not so hot anymore. Then it is important to again raise the temperature until
one reaches the level of pain again. This continues until the man with the injured hand stand as
much heat as the healthy hand. Then you have reached a level of heat tolerance makes
to the central nervous system does not interpret it as necessary to
inflammation reaction. The skin is kept intact and there will be no water blister or sore left.
After 7-10 days folds a thin, thin skin layers of such as after a sunburn.
Moxa or other heat works well. Other symptoms such as mosquito bites,
sunburn or another that provides heat in the skin can be treated on the same principle. Supplying
a similar heat that inflammation offers.
"The experienced cook holds his hand, Which HE HAS scalded, at A Certain Distance from
the fire, and does not heed the Increase of pain That takes place at first, as he knows from
experiencethat he can Thereby in a very short time, thwart in a few minutes, convert the
Burnt party into healthy painless skin.
"

One of the indications of where to stick an acupuncture needle or treat otherwise
you that it is tender or makes sick when one manipulates the current point.

This phenomenon itself shows that perhaps homeopathy and acupuncture have wisely
kinship. The stagnated disease exposed to an exogenous trauma in the form of a needle.
This small injury stimulates one of their own body outgoing healing process in the
the area represented by the pain / tenderness point.

I think there are great similarities in the basic elements of acupuncture and homeopathy.
They work with the same functions in the body to achieve the target, ie, better health.
It is, however, different concepts and they have their origin in different cultures. The methods and
tools are also quite different. If you have a good understanding of basic principles should be
using various methods support during acupuncture treatment.
Widely used Chinese herbs as an adjunct to acupuncture treatment. I think that if you have
sufficient knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine and homeopathy is no obstacle
combining these.
If you look at the homeopathic medicines by traditional Chinese medicins
glasses, one can see that there are many useful drugs. For example, we
mention the homeopathic medicine Sepia. Here we find a characteristic fatigue and
heaviness in the abdomen. Physically, we find symptoms such as prolapse, shortness of breath, and loose
stools.
Typically, patients may feel dull, not quite in its place; 'I was meant to
anything better than this! ' They may have very anxious and think about the negative things
continuously. They have little energy, but may feel better by violent movements, less humid
environment. Working with water is the worst thing they can do.
This medication may be a good adjuvant in the treatment of spleen qi deficiency with similar
symptoms.
Medicine Lachesis used when symptoms which the patient becomes worse after sleep, have a
tight feeling in your chest and / or abdomen with cyanotic nails and lips. They can
have swollen veins in the neck and can not go with scarves or tight clothes. Breathing
may seem difficult, as if a plug to travel up and down in the airways. Other circulatory
Symptoms include purple hemorrhoids, pain before menstruation, better when menstruation comes in
time. Skin conditions can have purple or dark color. This medication can possibly be good at
blood stagnation if the symptoms fit.
To illustrate, I want to give an example of acupuncture treatment with homeopathy as
addition.

The patient is an elderly man who received compression fracture at L3-L4 5-6 years ago. This
"Frbroskats" / healed surprisingly well according to the doctors, but he now has problems with sciatica.
The symptoms are classic pain down towards the lower back, further down towards the hip joint (femoral
trochantor majus) and along the lateral side of the thigh. The pain continues along the lateral side
of calf and goes out toward the three middle toes of the dorsal side of the foot.
He feels daily pain along the entire distance, but also a numb feeling in
thigh region from about 3 cun during trochantor to 2 cun above the upper edge of the patella. The distance

from
knee to the lateral malleolus is very painful and tense. Second, third and fourth toe feels
numb.
Heavy: yellow coating the lower jiao / middle jiao. Stripped to come. Rosa heavy body, a little
teeth marks.
Pulse: strnglik, both chi positions weak
Constitution: overweight but active person who is difficult to sit still. Says he is
workaholic, even though he should have retired.
Other relevant information: former much trouble with blood in the stool, treated with
cortisone, etc. for ulcerative cholit since -93. This has probably given a weaker bone structure
with the result compression fracture of L3-L4 region.
There is also suspicion of wear in the hips.
Modalities: feel worse about it shifts to damp or cold weather. Worse if
morning, worse on working much. Worse in the afternoon. Better local heat.
Diagnosis: heat in the bowel and stagnant moisture and mucus in the gallbladder meridians
Treatment: the heat, increase circulation in the gall bladder meridian and resolve phlegm.

Page 32
32
I do not focus so much on gut problems as sciatica -problematiken seem strong
dominant at the present time.
Point selection: I have varied point selection, but mainly gone along the gallbladder (GB)
meridians. Among other things, I have used GB 30, 31, ashi-points below the trochanter, GB 34;
ashi-points laterally on the calf, bladder 60, bafeng (M-Le-8), Stomach 40, and "the four
porter ". I have also used the back-shu points for the spleen, stomach and kidneys.
Effect of treatment: If the first reading is achieved not the qi of any needles. Probably the
because the patient had taken the full dose of codein / paracetamol and a strong homemade
cough syrup (sic)
The subsequent treatments produce immediate effect and can last for two days.
Treats up to 3 days per week at the beginning. Symptoms get better but do not disappear.
For various reasons, there must be a break in treatment at about 1 1/2 weeks and I give
Homeopathic medicine Hypericum perforatum D 200 in liquid form for increasing dosage
as adjuvants in the meantime.
Criteria for selection of hypericum: It is a known medicine for nerve damage and have as
main indication that the pain goes along the nerve's direction. In Lectures on Homoeopathic
Materia Medica by James Tyler Kent, we find this description:
"... .and That nerve Becomes inflamed and the pain can be traced up along the nerve, and it
Ice Gradually Extending toward the body from the injured party with stitching, darting pains,
coming and going, or shooting up from the region of the injury toward the body, ....
... Stitching, shooting pains in the back in various directions; They shoot down the limbs. "

In Kent's Repertorium we can find the following recorded symptoms / indications:

Extremities, pain, lower limbs, sciatica (p. 1064)

We also find confirmation in the direction of damp, cold.
In Boericke's Materia Medica with Repertory we find on page 339 the following:
"Stomach. Tongue coated white at base, tip clean. "
This is another indication that we can find cold and damp in this symptombildet.
(Boericke. Page 339. 1927/1988)
When the patient comes back he may report a small decrease after the first dose of

pain along the entire distance from the lower back to the bottom of the foot. This is an update of
they own natural symptoms. This lasted about 20 minutes, then it was much better.
Thus, a classic primary-like effect with subsequent secondary improvement. Repeating
medicine gave intensifieringar in about 15 minutes with subsequent improvement all the time.
After a few weeks of combined treatment with acupuncture and homeopathy have
pain in the lower back has become minimal, the feeling in the toes have come back, pain in
the thigh is minimal but it still feels a little away numb. Acupuncture and
Homeopathic medicine has not been given on the same day. Both acupuncture and homeopathic
medicines
has immediate effect.
In the area of the calf, he still pain, but significantly less than previously. From
have had pain all the way from the lower back to our toes, it has declined and moved downward.
Although I have not focused on the stomach bowel more than back-shu of the stomach and spleen, as well
as
Stomach 40, he said that he has been really good in the stomach lately. The tongue
coating is less yellow. He feels he can eat what he wants now. After 16
Treatments are paused when he thinks he's on the right track, and the symptoms are mild.
Patient's main complaints were sciatica. The foundation is a problem with the gut that may be
current at a later time. Point selection and any homeopathic medicine will then
be otherwise.

After 20 years of homeopathy in similar cases, I would say that the treatment time
cut short significantly by the combination of acupuncture.
I am fundamentally skeptical about mixing different therapies then it can be an unclear focus

treatment and outcome can be uncertain and difficult to interpret. But if one respects and
use different forms of therapy on their own premises can reach far.
As long as you know what you are doing, you can do what you want! But you do not know what to
doing, should one fail ...
