1. Production Cluster
Production Engineering Division
Production Engineering (PE) Division is one of the key Divisions of the company which is responsible for
setting up of New Vehicle/Engine Plants and modification of the existing facility to produce vehicles as per
marketing requirements.
Production Engineering plans the process and establishes the set-up for transforming the designed product
prepared by Product engineering team into a manufactured commodity.
It aligns with the long term strategy of Maruti by proactively planning facilities for meeting future volumes
and model mix in the most productive and efficient way.
Production Engineering Division is divided into different areas operating across multiple plant locations. It
carries out the entire project engineering for new models/modifications. Its role includes preparing project
reports, selection of process, preparing plant layout & equipment list, providing budget estimates, carrying
out cost benefit analysis, selection of equipment/supplier, technical and commercial evaluation, ordering,
installation and handing over of facilities to production.
The entire range of engineering subjects can be applied to the vast arena of manufacturing set-up here,
starting from raw-material like Steel Coils, Ingots (of Aluminium), Plastics Pallets, etc. being processed
through different processes like Pressing, Welding, Painting, Injection Moulding, Die Casting, Heat
Treatment, Forging, Machining, Assembly, etc. to convert to finished product or Vehicle.
This set-up will present different challenges in terms of design versus constraints, demand versus resources,
deadline versus quality of job, which will use the technical basics of an engineer accompanied by optimum
decision and risk minimization.
This will act as a ground to nurture and groom the young engineers into a seasoned professional.
Engineers here are exposed to working on both the technical & commercial aspects, interacting with
different departments (like Supply chain, Product engineering, Marketing, Production, Finance, etc.) within
MSIL, in addition to Suppliers, SMC engineers to name a few.
They will be exposed to a wide variety of work & environment from working on shop-floor with workers to
technical/commercial discussions with CEO of manufacturers.
They will be given various opportunities to visit manufacturers within & outside country and can keep
abreast with technological developments across the globe.
Production Engineering Division, comprising of a mix of enthusiastic youngsters and experienced
professionals, awaits young engineers with challenging opportunities and a gratifying career ahead.

2. Quality Cluster
Quality Assurance Division
Quality Assurance (QA) Vertical is responsible for ensuring Quality in Regular Models & Development, Evaluation,
Testing of Components & Vehicles of New models for India and other Export countries. The Engineers are involved
in all the aspects of Quality of our Products, Processes and Systems.
New Model Planning team lays down the detailed schedule of the project and targets are assigned to different
teams. The targets include Quality, Performance, & Development cycle.
The Testing team undertakes rigorous testing activities to evaluate the performance of the Component at system
level and at Vehicle level. Their role is critical for testing and evaluation of the test results.
QA also ensures that good Quality parts from our Suppliers are fitted on line. To improve the level of our Suppliers,
Quality Assurance also guides them to improve their processes, Systems and upgrade the Quality of their parts.
In Maruti manufacturing Plants, the Quality Group is responsible in ensuring that Vehicles produced with robust
Quality are delivered to the customers. Similarly, Market Quality Group ensures that Customer Vehicle Quality
feedback is resolved in the shortest possible time.
QA team proactively handles potential Quality issues. Technical Analysis of defects and implementation of
corrective measures ensure robust Quality. Engineers often work in Cross Functional Teams with members of
other areas. Thus, being a part of QA Vertical calls for hands on working, an innovative mindset and ability to learn
quickly.
Young engineers in QA upgrade their technical skills based by learning about the Products, Processes,
Technologies and Systems. Engineers are exposed to working on new products and in handling the Quality issues
from both the Domestic and Foreign Markets and issues related to Suppliers including overseas suppliers.
Exposure includes dealing with Customers, Dealers, Suppliers, Plant Production and handling System innovations.
Appropriate Internal and External trainings including trainings at Japan are provided based on the Job
requirements.
Since maintaining & upgrading the Quality is complex activity, various QA areas deal with the same:
-

Market, In-house Plant Quality and Quality Systems

New Model Vehicle Testing & Evaluation
New Model Part Development
Regular Supply Part Quality
Vendor Upgradation

Each one of these areas is equally important for Maruti. A fresh engineer joins one of the above based on his
branch and business requirements. Also there is a Policy of Job Rotation where an engineer gets cross functional
exposure in the later stages of his career.

3. Engineering Cluster
Engineering Division
Engineering vertical is responsible for design and development of new models for India and other export
countries. They get involved in the model development cycle right from the concept stage, where based on
market survey the basic style and features are frozen.
Planning team lays down the detailed schedule of the project and targets are assigned to different teams.
The targets include Quality, Performance, Weight, Cost and development schedule. A design engineer then
develops the component design and checks against quality and performance parameters. They utilize high
end software platforms like UG-NX for design, Abaqus, hyper mesh for CAE, Star CCM & Field View for CFD
and Enovia for project management. This drives a development engineer to start working with national and
international suppliers with high technology competence to decide the manufacturing process at an
optimum cost and meeting the quality requirements.
Finally, the testing team undertakes rigorous testing activities to evaluate the performance of the
component at system level and at vehicle level. Their role is critical as they just not test the
components/vehicle using instruments, but also conduct subjective analysis to understand the elements like
noise & vibration.
Till the time, a vehicle reaches Start of Production (SOP); everyone is contributing to ensure that the vehicle
is world class. And even after SOP they work together, whenever a market problem is reported. Thus, being
a part of engineering vertical calls for working with own hands, innovative mindset and ability to learn from
failures.
Coming at a very young age, engineers need to hone their technical skills over 2-3 project cycles, working
their own hands, learning the basic and advanced product, material and manufacturing technologies.
Engineers are exposed to working on new products, and at times teaming up with Suzuki engineers in Japan.
The innovations of the engineers are converted into patents. Opportunities are provided to present design
innovations at international forums, visit Global auto shows and technology centers to expand their horizons.
Since the development of a vehicle requires multi-disciplinary approach, we have different divisions
handling different areas of technology. The various divisions in the Engineering vertical are:
-

Power Train Design, Development & Testing,

Electrical & Electronics Design, Development & Testing,
Body & Interior design & development,
Chassis Design, development & testing,
Product Planning,
CAE & Vehicle testing
Technical Administration.

R & D at MSIL is growing rapidly. Maruti is investing in new products, people, technology and facilities to
become a world class R&D. A world class R&D Center with the best test labs and world class test tracks is
being built to test a vehicle to any kind of road condition or test requirement of this world. The vibrant open
office culture motivates them to ask questions and seek clarifications for better understanding of their roles
and responsibilities. The Engineering Top Management right from the Executive Director, Vice President and
General Managers interact regularly with young people for mentoring, both in a structured manner and
otherwise.
