InAncientGreekthewordpraxis()referredtoactivityengagedinbyfreemen.Aristotleheldthat
therewerethreebasicactivitiesofman:theoria,poiesisandpraxis.Therecorrespondedtothesekindsof
activitythreetypesofknowledge:theoretical,towhichtheendgoalwastruthpoietical,towhichtheend
goalwasproductionandpractical,towhichtheendgoalwasaction.Aristotlefurtherdividedpractical
knowledgeintoethics,economicsandpolitics.Healsodistinguishedbetweeneupraxia(,"good
praxis")[2]anddyspraxia(,"badpraxis,misfortune").[3]
