TO MUSLIM NEIGHBOURS
A Jewish neighbour of Hadhrat Abdullah Ibn Mubarak decided to sell his house. On being asked
the selling price, he responded, Two thousand. They (the potential buyers) said to him, Its not
even worth one thousand! He said, Youre right. But I am taking one thousand for the house and
one thousand for having a neighbour [such as] Abdullah Ibn Mubarak. When Hadhrat Abdullah
Ibn Mubarak heard of this, he supplicated for the man and he gave the money to him saying, Do
not sell your house.
Does the garbage I deposit in front of your room not distress you?
Maalik: It does distress me, but I wash and clean the place.
Jewish man: Why do you tolerate so much distress?
Maalik: Allah has promised substantial reward for those who contain their anger and forgive
people.
Jewish man: Truly, your Deen is beautiful. It commands toleration of even the hardships
presented by enemies.
The man was so affected by the beautiful conduct of Maalik Bin Dinaar that he eventually
embraced Islam. [Scattered Pearls]
On the other hand, if he acknowledges his wrongs considering them to be quite serious, he would

forgiveness through which he receives pardon and in this way obliterates all trace of the sin.
feel his pain. And if a thousand miles away there be a human being upon
whose foot falls a rock it would be as if I had been wounded. And if there be
a distraught heart [somewhere] it would be my heart that would be afflicted
with pain.
