I spent quite a bit of Thursday singing I can see clearly now the rain has come the
original must have been on the radio during the morning before I got really started,
either on my bathroom radio whilst I shaved or on the radio of a car as it was stopped at
the Lake Street lights while I was having breakfast. Its not right of course, but I happily
and perhaps flatly sung away all day as I drove from one thing to the next. In a day of
pouring rain it just seemed to make sense. Youll probably be singing it right now trying
to work out the error! Ill give you another one to try: Do you know the name of the
Swagman in Waltzing Matilda? Sing it to see if you can work out where his name comes
in the song. Youll need to sing it out loud to work it out! I dare you! LOL Of course once
you sing it a couple of times it will become clear. Of course his name is Andy! Its a joke
but we all pronounce the chorus slightly out of kilter: and he (Andy) sang as he watched
and waited till his Billy boiled.
I was laughing with my sister again recently about my niece praying the Lords Prayer of
a night, which she has done faithfully. She has gotten slightly better at it as she has aged
but she thought that someone must have gotten the prayer slightly wrong as they were
teaching her or she just got it wrong, but she made an adjustment: Our Father who does
art in heaven. It makes so much more sense in some ways. The God who created us in
his great art studio in heaven, such a simple and child-like way to identify quite simply
something incredibly complex. Actually I think in truth it could well be the better version,
maybe the Holy Spirit influenced her praying at age 7. I often think that it says in the very
art of creating, God like all human artists placed the very essence of the creating Being
right here in all that is created in His image and that He continues to be part of each
moment of creation, intimately.
So much of what we carry is given to us without our even sometimes being fully aware of
what that looks like. The good and the bad alike I suppose. Sometimes it happens
because we miss hear, miss see, misunderstand. The song matters, the prayer matters,
and what we proclaim as our message matters so much more when we support them
with the action of our lives: it does limit the opportunity for error. We pair the two
things of saying and doing in others without even being fully aware that we are doing it.
Kids look at adult behaviour and mirror it, almost always ignoring what is said. Its like
breathing, we just do it. Its subliminal and thankfully we get challenged in the Gospels
to make the necessary adjustments for the errors in our neighbours and ourselves so
that the song gets sung wrong sometimes, the prayer is prayed wrong sometimes and it
still sound okay that we are still okay. Luckily for us God knows the right words and He
makes the necessary adjustments because He got it right on the Cross so that we could
get it wrong and flat it would still be okay, in the end.
Best wishes,

Forster 5:30pm

Greg
