Instructions
ATCSIMisawebbasedairtrafficcontrolsimulator.Nopluginsoradditionalsoftwarearerequiredtoplay.
Objective
Controllersmustroutearrivinganddepartingaircraftbothsafelyandaccurately.
SafeSeparationStandards
Yourjobistoensurethataircraftareseparatedbyeitherofthefollowingcriteria:
Laterally3miles
Vertically1,000feet
Commands
Allcommandsareintheformat:
FlightID+Command+[CommandString].
Takeoff
FlightIDT
**Departingaircraftmustfirstbeassignedanaltitude.
Landing
FlightIDL[runway]
**Arrivalsmustbewithin3,000ftofgroundleveltoaccept
alandingclearance.
Clearances
FlightIDC[commandstring]
Samplecommandstrings:
3digits=Setcoursetoheadingxxx.
1or2digits=Clearedtoaltitudenx1,000ft.
OBK,DPA,...=SetcoursetoaVORstation.
Examples:

Whereasaircraftwillnormallyturninthemostefficientmannertoreachtheirdestination,youcanalsosay:

etc.,andtheaircraftwillturnright/left(clockwise/counterclockwise),regardlessofthelocationofthebeacon/fixorthe
compassdirection.
Ofcourse,theL/Rsuffixcanalwaysbeomitted.

Optionally,altitudeclearancesmaybeexpeditedbyadding"X"or"EX"afterthecommandstring.Thiswillcausetheaircraftin
questiontoclimbordescendattwiceitsusualrate.(Thisdoesnotapplytoclearancesgiventoaircraftthatarestillonthe
ground.)Forexample,ANYIDC14EXwillbeunderstoodtomean"climb/descendto14,000feet,expedite".Itisconsidered
poorformtooveruse"expedite".
Limitationsonlandingclearances:
LandingclearanceswillonlybeacceptediftheACTUALheadingoftheairplaneiswithin+/60degreesoftherunway
centerline(for27R/27L,thisis270)andtheACTUALaltitudeis2,000ft(orcloseenoughtothisvaluetointerceptthe
approachglideslope).ClearinganairplaneforlandingPASSEDtherunwaycenterline(i.e.youclearedtheairplanetoolate)
maycausethepilottofailtodetecttheapproachglideslopeandcontinueontheinterceptionheading.Clearinganairplane
forlandingfromaheadingwhichdoesnotintercepttherunwaycenterlinewillcausethepilottokeepflyingonthisheading
withouteverdetectingtheapproachglideslope.
Speed
FlightIDS[speed]
**Arrivalswillautomaticallyslowforlanding.
LineUpandWait
FlightIDW
Thiscommandinstructsdepartingplanestoholdattheendoftherunwayandawaitfurthercommands.Accordingly,youcan
issuea"T"commandtooneaircraft,andonceitbeginsrollingyoucanhaveasecondaircraftholdbehindit,thuseliminating
anydelayforthesecondaircraft.
Notethatit'snotnecessarytoissuethe"W"commandbeforea"T"command"W"existsonlyforyourconvenienceinbusy
situations.
**AnidenticalLWcommandcanalsobeused.
Aborttakeoff/landing
FlightIDA
**Landingaircraftwillonly"goaround"iftheyarenotalready
ontheground.
ProgressStrips
FlightinformationsuchasFlightID,heading,altitude,aircrafttype,anddestinationareprintedonprogressstrips.

Lightblueindicatesadeparture.Inthisexample,SWA113isSouthwestAirlinesflight113.Itiscurrentlyholdingatrunway
12Randisatthefieldelevationof618feetMSL.ThisaircraftisaBoeing737700andhasrequestedclearancetofixFONTI.

"Buff"(paleyellow/lighttan)indicatesanarrival.AZA518isAlitaliaflight518.Ithasbeenclearedtoaheadingof261
degreesandanaltitudeof2,000feet.However,thedownarrowindicatesthatitisdescending(thatis,theaircraftisstillabove
2,000feet).TheaircraftisaBoeing767300,and"Arrival"meansthatithasrequestedclearancetoland.
**ClickingonprogressstripswillautomaticallyentertheFlightIDintothecommandtextbox.
FlightDataDisplays

Each"blip"ontheradarscreenwillhaveacorrespondingFlightDataDisplaythatshowsyoutheaircraft'srealtimealtitude
andspeed.Inthisexample,AmericanAirlinesflight810isdescendingthrough3,200feet,andiscruisingat240knots.
**ClickingonflightdatadisplayswillautomaticallyentertheFlightIDintothecommandtextbox.

Find"Allowstatusbarupdatesviascript"andchangethesettingto"Enable".
MapScale
Toseescalemileagemarkersattheedgeoftheradardisplay,typeSCALE.TypeSCALEagaintomakethemarkers
disappear.

Ifatanytimeyouwanttoseehowwellyou'redoing,typeSTATStoseeabreakdownofyourperformance.
HighScores
Whenyouarefinishedwiththesimulation,typeQUITorEXITandyourstatisticswillbeenteredintothehighscoretable.

SlownessinWindows7andInternetExplorer9
IfyouarerunningaWindows7laptoponbatterypowerandplayingthesimusingInternetExplorer9,youmayexperience
slowness.Thiscanbefixedbyadjustingthe"JavaScriptTimerFrequency"intheadvancedPowerSettingswithinthe
WindowsControlPanel.
