1. The increasing trend of dangerous crimes is engaging the attention of Security Ministers in the
Carib Region. A foreign security consulting firm CRIMEBUSTER has been the contracted to
examine the crime statistics for the Carib Region and to come up with workable solutions to reduce
the amount of dangerous crimes.
The crime statistics have been collected for the period 2000 2003 and stored in a spreadsheet
named CRIME.
(a)

Retrieve the spreadsheet CRIME so that the first cell begins in cell A4.
(1 mark)

(b)

Insert an appropriate row and column to store the total crimes for EACH year and the
totals for EACH crime for the four-year period.
(2 marks)

(c)

Insert the appropriate formulae to compute the total crimes for EACH year and the total
for EACH crime for the four-year period.

(d)

Include two additional columns labeled Residents and Foreigners in the


appropriate place to store a breakdown of the total for EACH crime in terms of those
committed by residents of the Carib Region and those committed by foreigners. It has
been found that 90% of crimes were committed by Residents and 10% by Foreigners.
Fill in the data for the two column using appropriate formulae.

Create a BAR chart to show the yearly crimes committed. The chart should be titled
CRIMESTATISTICS: 2000 2003. EACH bar should be labeled to indicate the year it
represents, or a legend should be provided. Axes should be labeled appropriately. Save as
YEARLYCRIMES.

Create a PIE chart to show the four-year crimes by category. The chart should be labeled
CATEGORIES OF CRIMES. EACH slice of PIE should be properly labeled to indicate which
crime it represents or a legend should be provided and indicate the percentage of total crimes
committed for the four years. Save as CRIMETYPE.

2. The management of CRIMEBUSTER is compiling a list of Ministers in charge of security in the
Carib Region. The following data have been compiled and placed in a spreadsheet called
MINISTERS.
(a)

Import the spreadsheet MINISTERS and store it as a database table with the same name.
(2 marks)

(b)

The country code for each country consists of two characters, the first and the third
character of the countrys name. Insert an additional field in the table between the Country
and Designation fields. Name this field Ccode and fill in the data for the Ccode field.

(c)

Sort the database table MINISTERS in DESCENDING order by the Last Name. Resave as
MINISTERS.

Countries with % of GDP > 10 and Security Budget (M$) < 100. Your query should
have only the fields: Country, Security Budget (M$) and % of GDP and a calculated
field GDP to compute the GDP of the country. The GDP is computed using the
security budget and the percentage of GDP it represents. Sort the query in
ASCENDING order by Country. Save as GDP.

The average, maximum and minimum security budget for the countries in the Carib
Region. Save as BUGAVG: BUGMAX and BUGMIN.
