Statistical Process Control

An industrial process is subjected to a series of random factors of nature

that make it impossible to produce two products exactly the same. In other
words, the characteristics of the product manufactured are not uniform and
present a variability. This variability is clearly undesirable and the goal has
to be reduced as much as possible or at least keep it within limits. Statistical
Process Control (SPC; by its acronym in english of Statistical Process Control)
is a useful tool to achieve this second objective. Given that its application is
in the time of manufacture, we can say that this tool contributes to the
improvement of the quality of manufacture. You can also increase the
knowledge of the process (since he is taking the "pulse" on a regular basis)
which in some cases can lead to the improvement of the same.
The control charts, based on statistical techniques, allow you to use
objective criteria to distinguish changes in fund of events of importance.
Almost all of its power is in the ability to monitor the center of the process
and its variation around the center. By collecting data from measurements
at different sites in the process, you can detect and correct variations in
process that may affect the quality of the final product or service, reducing
waste and preventing problems from reaching the end customer.
Statistical Process Control is the application of statistical techniques to
determine if the result of a process is consistent with the design of the
product or service. The familiar tools such as control charts are used in the
SPC to detect the development of defective products or services or to
indicate that the production process has been modified and the products or
services are diverted from their respective design specifications, unless
measures are taken to rectify the situation. The statistical control also is
often used with the purpose to inform the management about the changes
in the processes that have impacted favorably on the production resulting
from these processes.
The general method is prescriptive and descriptive, is not analytical. To
statistically monitor the processes it is not a matter of shaping the
distribution of data collected in a given process. It is a question of
controlling the process with the help of decision rules to locate significant
discrepancies between the observed data and the rules of the process that
is controlled.
A process is said to be under control when only statistical variations occur
due to common causes. In other words the objective and raison d'etre for
Statistical Process Control is to help identify the special causes that result in
variations in the process and to provide information for making decisions.

Applications of statistical process control

Identifies and analyzes the causes that quickly can cause deflections to not
be resubmitted in the future. There are four factors that should be
considered when applying the process of control:

Quantity
Time
Cost
Quality

Your application directly affects the streamlining of the administration and,

consequently, in the achievement of the productivity of all the resources of
the company. This statistical control can be applied in all types of businesses
where you have a set of operations executed materials for the collection,
processing or transport of one or several products.

Conclusion
The implementation of statistical process control is a really important tool
for the industry, because this allows us to monitor the operations are carried
out and thus to be able to detect faults within the system and to correct
them in such a way that will not happen again, so the final product will come
out with greater precision and accuracy thereby ensuring the quality of the
product.
It is a tool that can be used in any industrial area, as mentioned in the
introduction, began in the manufacture of weapons, and then Japan used
this same method for the analysis of their telecommunications needs. This
shows us that the efficient and the large field of application of this method
for the analysis and decision-making, so you have a service or final product
more perfect as possible.
