What are hallucinogens?

Hallucinogens (also known as psychedelics) can make a person see, hear, smell, feel or taste
things that arent really there or are different from how they are in reality.
Some plants such as magic mushrooms can cause hallucinations. Hallucinogens such as LSD can
also be made in a lab.

Effects of hallucinogens
There is no safe level of drug use. Use of any drug always carries some risk. Its important to
be careful when taking any type of drug.
Hallucinogens affect everyone differently, based on:

Size, weight and health

Whether the person is used to taking it

Whether other drugs are taken around the same time

The amount taken

The strength of the drug (varies from batch to batch)

The effects of hallucinogens can last for 4 to 12 hours and can be different depending on which
type of hallucinogen is used. The following may be experienced during this time:

Feeling happy and relaxed

Seeing and hearing things that arent there

Confusion and trouble concentrating

Dizziness

Blurred vision

Clumsiness

Fast or irregular heart beat

Breathing quickly

Vomiting

Sweating and chills

Numbness
Examples: LSD, magic mushroom

What Are Stimulants?

Stimulants are a class of drugs that consists of illegal drugs such as cocaine,
methamphetamine and MDMA (ecstasy), as well as legal drugs such as
nicotine, caffeine and prescription medications such as Ritalin and Adderall.
These drugs increase alertness, energy and attention and boost mood.
How Do Stimulants Affect the Brain and Body?
Stimulants excite the central nervous system, rapidly increasing the feel-good chemicals in the brain
such as dopamine and disrupting normal communication between cells in the brain. As a result, the
user may experience euphoria, along with a long list of adverse effects including:

Increased blood pressure

Irregular heart rate

Dangerously high body temperature

Chronic insomnia

Depression

Nutritional deficiencies

Impotence

Examples: nicotine, caffeine, ecstasy

Depressants
Depressants are psychoactive drugs which temporarily diminish the normal function of the brain and central nervous
system. These drugs include opiates and opioids, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, tranquilizers and alcohol. Due to
their effects, these drugs can be referred to as "downers".
DEPRESSANTS: SHORT-TERM EFFECTS

Slow brain function

Slowed pulse and breathing

Lowered blood pressure

Poor concentration

Confusion

Fatigue2

Dizziness

Slurred speech

Fever

Sluggishness

Visual disturbances

Dilated pupils

Disorientation, lack of coordination

Depression

Difficulty or inability to urinate

Addiction

example alcohol, solvents, temazepam

Narcotics (also called opioid pain relievers) are used only for pain that is severe and is not helped by
other types of painkillers. When used carefully and under a doctor's direct care, these drugs can be
effective at reducing pain.

Euphoria

Sedation

Sleepiness

Nausea

Vomiting

Constipation

Constricted pupils

Reduced pain

Inability to feel pain or an extreme reduction in the sense of pain

Labored breathing

Reduced heart rate

Examples Examples include opium, morphine, heroin, codeine, hydrocodone, fentanyl, meperidine,

oxycodone, tramadol, nalbuphine, pentazocine, and many others.

Definition: Volatile solvents are liquids that vaporize at room temperature.

These organic solvents can be inhaled for psychoactiveeffects and are present in
many domestic and industrial products such as glue, aerosol, paints,
industrial solvents, lacquer thinners, gasoline, and cleaning fluids.
Signs of intoxication include agressiveness, lethargy, impaired movement, euphoria, impaired judgement, dizziness,
rapid involuntary movement of the eyes, blurred vision or double vision (diplopia), slurred speech, tremors, unsteady
gait, overactive reflexes, muscle weakness, stupor, or coma.
Examples: glue, aerosol, paints, industrial solvents, lacquer thinners, gasoline, and cleaning fluids.

Kaingin is noted to be one of the principal causes of deforestation. Slash and burn consists of
cutting and burning to convert forest lands to agriculture lands or pasture for livestock, or for a
variety of other purposes. It is sometimes part of shifting cultivation agriculture, and of
transhumance livestock herding.
