As if the woes of the local mining industry

are not enough, analysts are of the opinion
that the price of platinum, widely used in
diesel car engines, could fall below $900 a
troy ounce for the first time since the financial
crisis in the wake of the emissions scandal at
Volkswagen AG.
Spot platinum fell heavily on Tuesday and
hit a near seven-year low on Wednesday
at $929.08 a troy ounce, before recovering
slightly to $932.25, as some questioned
whether the affair would have a lasting effect
on demand for diesel cars.
Investors are worried that car buyers
will switch from diesel engines to petrol or
electric cars, hitting demand for platinum,,
according to David Govett, head of precious
metals trading at Marex Spectron who spoke
to the Wall Street Journal.
Georgette Boele, a precious metals strategist at ABN Amro, told the publication the
price of platinum could fall as low as $850 a
troy ounce in the aftermath of the Volkswagen scandal.
If consumers lose confidence in diesel
cars, this will have a substantial impact on
future platinum demand, she said.
Volkswagens shares have lost almost a
third of their value this week following revelations the company cheated in US emissions
tests.

Fiela nabs dagga

peddlers
Despite the debate about the possible
good and positive of dagga, possession and trading in the stuff remains
illegal.
Tubatse Police in Praktiseer were busy
with Operation Fiela on 18 September
2015 when they were allerted to dagga
peddlers by the community. As a result four women aged between 35 and
68-years old were arrested, one with a
baby on her back. They were released
after paying admission of guilt fines of
R500 each. Apparently a small bag of
daggas street value at the peddlers is
about R10.

What will you do on Heritage weekend?

Yesterday, 24 September South Africans celebrated Heritage Day with a public holiday.
This day is aimed at bringing South Africans
together in celebrating the diversity of one
country. Everyone is encouraged to celebrate
their culture, beliefs and traditions in a wider
context. This forms part of the countrys
living heritage as government describes it.
It includes cultural tradition, oral history, performance, ritual, popular memory, skills and
techniques, indigenous knowledge system
and the holistic approach to nature, society
and social relationships. This plays an important role in promoting cultural diversity, social
cohesion, reconciliation, peace and economic development. In every community there
are living human treasures that possess a
high degree of knowledge, skills and history
pertaining to different aspects of diverse living heritage. That is why South Africans are
encouraged to reclaim, restore and preserve
these aspects of living heritage and use it in
a way that can help address the challenges
communities are facing.
This weekend the Sekhukhune District
Municipality will be hosting various heritage
celebrations (see the advertisement on page
5) and all residents of the area are invited to
come together in celebrating local cultural
diversity.

heritage and we will teach them.

Mr. Michael Magane said: It is a very important day. There are gatherings where people
from all races come and share their culture.
Ill be at the Ga-Malekane event for the municipal heritage event. Our Catholic Church

Multiple chances to win with Boxer

Recently, all Boxer stores launched the Washin
with the Stars campaign whereby customers
who purchase a 3kg Sunlight hand washing
powder receives a FREE & exclusive to Boxer
CD, while stocks last. The CD is a one of its
kind and was created just for this campaign.
Comprising of 12 number one hits, the Box
Hits Volume 1 CD is truly a South African music
lovers dream. Tracks include Gugothandaya
by the music legends Mafikizolo and Weekend
Special by Brenda Fassie & The Big Dubes
to name a few. The Box Hits Volume 1 CD is
a limited offer and customers have been advised to be aware that its only available while
stocks last.
Over and above this campaign Boxer
launched a unique campaign titled I Have a
Dream. Boxer customers are required to purchase any two of the four advertised Unilever
products to be eligible for entry via a USSD
platform. Entrants will be prompted to select 1
of the 5 possible dream situations. They could
attend their Matric Dance with Heavy K, get
Khaya Mthethwa to perform at their Church, go
on a R10 000 shopping spree with Mafikizolos
Nhlanhla, receive an exclusive performance by
Woza Africa for their Stokvel Group or ask for
Winnie Mashaba to come to their Birthday Party.
Now those are some really special dreams
and Boxer together with selected Unilever
brands are making them possible. But that is not
all; there is still a GRAND PRIZE for just 1 lucky

Boxer shopper - 2 x VIP Tickets to the South

African Music Awards (SAMA) 2016. This price
includes; flights for 2, to Johannesburg, accommodation for 2 in a Hotel overnight as well as
transport via limo from the airport to the Hotel

made possible by simply buying two selected
products at a Boxer store.
As if that was not enough, another life

treat during the months of September, October
and November. Win a Dream Wedding will
see customers purchasing 2 Vaseline, Ponds
or Dawn products to enter the competition via
USSD and stand a chance of winning their
dream wedding worth R100 000. This price
includes: Venue & Car Hire, Catering, Grooms
Attire, Brides Hair & Make Up, a Wedding

bring relief to a couple. However, the winning
couple will need to have their wedding by March
2016 so only those serious about tying the
knot should enter.

Casual Day matters

Casual Day was celebrated at the beginning
of September. This day is a fundraising day
for people living with disabilities.
Some schools and organisations are
however not helping this good cause, highjacking the day for their own purpose.
Casual Day is a trademarked brand and
while the National Council for Persons with
Physical Disabilities in South Africa (NCPPDSA) cannot do anything to those who
use their brand unethically, they would like
to make it known that they are aware of it
and that these acts are defying the intended
purpose.
The money annually raised with Casual
Day goes to a range of worthy organisations
to help improve the lifes of people living with
disabilities.
Recently 17 wheelchairs were donated
to children in Limpopo living with disabilities.
This was done in partnership with Edcon and
Engen.
Wheelchairs are one of the most commonly used assistive devices and it gives
children with disabilities a sense of freedom

to engage in activities that abled bodied children participate in on a daily basis said Ms.
Therina Wentzel from NCPPDSA.
The wheelchairs donated are Madiba
buggies, which are specialised wheelchairs
and have been custom-fitted to each child.
They provide full body support suitable for
children and young adults with intermediate
to advanced seating needs.
Ms. Sandra Mohlabi Moyo, a parent of
15-year old Thabang who was one of the
recipients said: For the first time in 15 years
we are able to take Thabang to a soccer
game. With the buggy we are able to move
him around with ease. As a family we are
so happy to be able to do this. Thank you to
Engen, Edcon and the NCPPDSA for giving
us this better quality of life.
The funds from Casual day gets distributed to many other worth organisations that
helps to make difficult living conditions with
disabilities better through specifically directed
efforts and funds.
Next year, do the right thing and buy your
sticker to support a worthy cause.
