EVIDENCE OF TREATMENT

EXTERNAL EXAMINATION
Autopsy began at 2PM on April 2, 2015. Body is presented at the Cadaver
Section of VCMC.
The body is that of a normally developed male measuring 5 foot 7 inches and
weighing 60 kilograms appearing generally consistent with the stated age of 40
years old. The body is cold and unembalmed. The eyes are closed. The hair is black.
Lips area is grayish-white in color.
Lacerations in the chest walls, left portion measuring a diameter of 5cm.
Lacerations in the abdominal area, upper left quadrant measures 5.1 centimeters.
INTERNAL EXAMINATION
CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM: brain cells dead
SKELETAL SYSTEM: intact
RESPIRATORY SYSTEM: obstruction in the airway due to inadequate oxygen supply;
Lungs weigh- (R) 400 grams
(L) 402grams
CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM: heart weighs 350g, normal size
Evidence of 1 bullet remained in the R ventricular area while 4
bullets gaped 4 holes in the L ventricles. Approximately 5cm diameter each.
Lacerations present.
Cardiorespiratory arrest due to exsanguination.
GASTROINTESTINAL SYSTEM: mucosa and wall of esophagus are intact, without
injuries
Approximately 300ml of partially digested semi-solid food is found in
stomach.
Mucosa of duodenum, jejunum ad ileum are severely injured and
lacerated.
2 bullets gaped a hole while 2 bullets remained in the mucosal lining in
the upper left of abdomen. Exsanguination is present.

URINARY SYSTEM: kidneys weigh (L) 200g (R) 198g


Kidneys are anatomic in size, shape, location.
MALE GENITAL SYSTEM: structures are within normal limits
Seminal fluids removed for analysis
TOXICOLOGY: sample of bile is removed for toxicological analysis
Stomach contents are saved.

DRUG SCREEN RESULTS


Urine Screen- negative
Ethanol- 0gm/dl (blood)

EVIDENCE COLLECTED
Three gunshot bullets
-1 bullet recovered from interior chest (left ventricle)
-2 bullets recovered from abdomen (upper left quadrant)

OPINION
TIME OF DEATH: body temperature, rigor and livor mortis and stomach contents
approximate the time of death between 7:00 -7:30pm on April 1, 2015.
IMMEDIATE CAUSE OF DEATH: cardiorespiratory arrest due to multiple gunshot
wounds
ANTECEDENT CAUSE OF DEATH: exsanguination
UNDERLYING CAUSE: lacerations in the interior chest wall and abdominal area
MANNER OF DEATH: murder
