An exciting and challenging opportunity for students

to learn from some of the best instructors in the
industry.
Underwater film and photography is fast becoming a
key skill in the film/media industry.
The first stage of the module will be to gain your PADI
certificate.

This Unit is designed for students with no previous diving

qualifications. It provides an introductory, basic diving unit
to attain a PADI Open Water diving certificate.
Building on these skills the unit then teaches film and
photography students the theory and practice of
underwater film production and photography, a growth
area and one that offers career opportunities.
The programme will provide them with an appreciation of
the differences and complexities of working within the
underwater environment and the opportunity to put new
found skills and ideas into practice

Looking at:
The size and scope of the media diving industry, legislation
(risk management, diving project plans), planning and
organisation of dives, detailed look at cameras, housings
and accessories, film and photography theory, exposure/
colour correction, confined water training, open water
training dives.

The assessment part of the course will be to produce a

portfolio of work in groups.
This could take the shape of a film or series of
photographs.
Students will also be required to keep a journal (blog)
that plots the progress of their work and understanding
from the start of the module. This will also include
behind the scenes footage, research and development
of their final piece of work.

A blog simply lets you post stories, research, key

information about your journey on this unit.
At the end of the unit you have to present a film or
photographic portfolio. You are required to use the blog to
document this. Your ideas, processes and work in
progress. A blog allows you to upload photos, sound,
videos and some of the options below also work via mobile.
You can also create pages to separate your work into e.g.
Research | Development | Dives | Final Film or Photographs
To start your own blog for the unit you can use:

Research people working in this industry examples of work.

Research, document and present your work.

Think of all the opportunities you have to do
this.
Look around for inspiration - research areas
of underwater media industry - tips,
techniques, equipment.

During the second weekend you get the

opportunity to put theory into practice and go
diving. During this component of the course
you will have the opportunity to produce a
piece of assessed work
For those who are
undertaking photography this will consist of
the production of an underwater portfolio on
a subject to be determined. This may involve
wide angle or macro images and subject
matter interpretation will be up to you. For
those concentrating on film you will produce a
story board and short production on subject
matter that will be allocated.
Again,
interpretation of the subject matter will be up
to. On successful completion of all elements
of the programme you will be awarded the
unique PADI Distinctive Speciality rating as a
Underwater Filming and Media diver.

by taking your training through an approved
centre. Check with your faculty office for

THE PADI OPEN WATER DIVER
The PADI Open Water Diver qualification is
the most recognised diving certification in the
World. As a qualified diver you can dive with
a diver of similar, or higher qualification,
whenever you want to. It is your ticket to a
lifetime of adventure underwater and the
starting block to a huge and diverse range of
further diving qualifications and experiences.

COURSE OVERVIEW
At Triton Scuba our PADI Open Water courses
are conducted over 2 weekends and a new
course starts almost every weekend so you
can choose a date to suit you. Learning to
dive through a club system can take months,
but at Triton Scuba we are flexible on dates,
so if you miss a day through no fault of your
own, you can always join another course.
The course is broken down into a number of
modules that make learning easy and fun.

do a bit of home study, but we provide you
with manuals, your own DVDs and computer

information you need to understand the

theory of diving. You study when it suits you

meaning you wont have to sit through a se-
ries of dreary lectures. Your training will be
conducted at our award winning, PADI 5 Star
Centre in Southsea. During the first weekend
we will cover the theory side of life and all the
pool work; essential before we take you into
open water. We will confirm what you have
learnt and fill in any gaps in your knowledge
in the classroom then its time to get wet.
Over the first two days you will spend six
hours in the pool getting to grips with the
equipment and techniques used in diving.
Once the pool work has been completed and
you have passed an easy multiple choice exam, you are fully prepared for the last 2 days
of the course, where, in full diving equipment
that is now familiar to you, you will complete
your course by undertaking four open water
dives. These will be either from our boat, or
at an inland lake depending on the weather
conditions. Thats all there is to it; youre
ready to go diving and the start of an adventure of a lifetime.
