Elastomers

Spartek Systems primary method of sealing is an O-ring with Back-Up seated in

a Radial Static Gland.

Standard redress kits are available with 3 different elastomer compounds for
your application.
The default kits contain VITON o-rings with Nitrile back-ups for standard
service
AFLAS o-rings with PEEK back-ups for medium sour service
CHEMRAZ o-rings with PEEK back-ups or high sour service

It can also be noted that the elastomers are also listed in order of lowest
cost to highest.

Elastomers - Viton (FKM)

Viton is the primary elastomer used for lower temperature sweet service o-rings.
It is the lowest cost o-ring available from Spartek Systems. Nitrile back-up rings
are supplied with Viton o-rings in Sweet Service redress kits

Temperature Range: 0 to 300F

Max H2S Concentration: Do Not Use in H2S Environments
Known Chemical Incompatibilities:
Amines in solution above 200F (93C)
Steam or super heated water above 250F (121C)
Methanol in any concentration
Concentrated or thermally elevated acids
Brines with a pH greater than 10
Mechanical Properties:
Highly pliable, easily installed
Compression set resistant
Susceptible to Explosive Decompression (ED)

Elastomers - AFLAS (FEPM)

AFLAS is a copolymer with good chemical and heat resistance properties. It is a
mid-priced elastomer and is the default o-ring material for Spartek Systems sour
service tools.
The redress kits containing AFLAS o-rings are designated as Medium Sour
Service as AFLAS loses some of its chemical resistance at elevated temperatures.
The use of AFLAS o-rings requires that PEEK back-ups be installed.

Temperature Range: 40 to 420F

Max H2S Concentration:
Up to 20% at temperatures below 300F (150C)
Up to 7% at temperatures above 300F (150C)
Known Chemical Incompatibilities:
High concentrations of aromatic hydrocarbons
Acids at solution temperatures above 200F
Halogenated hydrocarbons
Mechanical Properties:
Less then average pliability may require mechanical means to install.
Susceptible to Compression Set
Resistant to Explosive Decompression

Elastomers - CHEMRAZ (PF)

CHEMRAZ is a copolymer with excellent chemical resistance and good
resistance properties. It is a high-priced elastomer and is the optional o-ring
material for Spartek Systems sour service tools
Redress kits containing CHEMRAZ o-rings are designated as High Sour Service
as CHEMRAZ maintains chemical resistance at elevated temperatures
The use of CHEMRAZ o-rings requires that PEEK back-ups be installed

Temperature Range: 0 to 450F

Max H2S Concentration: Unlimited
Known Chemical Incompatibilities:
Low molecular weight, fully halogenated hydrocarbons
Mechanical Properties:
Poor pliability, mechanical means required to install
Susceptible to Compression Set
Resistant to Explosive Decompression
