Part 12 - Ice Fatigue

Preparation
1) Under Training Project, create Ice Fatigue subdirectory
2) Under Ice Fatigue, Create Foundation SE, Modes and Fatigue subdirectories.
3) Copy SACINP.STA model file, SEAINP.STA and PSIINP.DAT soil data from \Spectral
Earthquake\Static SE directory to Foundation SE directory.
Creating foundation superelement under Foundation SE directory,
1) Modifying Seastate file SEAINP.STA
Delete EQKS from LCSEL and load combinations.
Rename load case GRVX to X000: delete ACCEL line and modifying INCWGT to include
only ANOD and WKWY for possible wave loads. Add 000 direction wave at 2.5m wave
height @ 7.5 sec wave period, stream function wave theory will be used in 18 steps for
maximum base shear.
Rename load case GRVY to Y090: delete ACCEL line and modifying INCWGT to include
only ANOD and WKWY for possible wave loads. Add 090 direction wave at 2.5m wave
height @ 7.5 sec wave period, stream function wave theory will be used in 18 steps for
maximum base shear.
In load combinations using X000 to replace GRVX and Y090 to replace GRVY.
Portion of modified Seastate input shall looks like following,

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2) Creating run file to generate foundation superelement using SUPX and SUPY.
In Analyis Options > Foundation part, select Create foundation superelement and
input SUPX and SUPY to 1st X and 1st Y load cases respectively, Max load and
deflections will be used for pile head load/deflection option.
No Element Check and Postvue database needed for this analysis.
Run analysis.
Mode extraction under Modes directory,

1) Copy Seastate SEAINP.DYN file from \Spectral Earthquake\Modes directory to

Modes directory.
2) Create Dynapac run file Extract Mode Shapes
Under Analysis Options > Super Element, select Import Superelement and browse
in Foundation SE directory for DYNSEF.STA file.
Under Analysis Options > Mode Shape, choose Use Modal Extraction Options;
input 50 to Number of Modes and select Create added mass of beams.
Choose Seastate options and create Postvue database.
Browse in Foundation SE directory for SACINP.STA when prompted for Model Data
file.
Run Analysis.
Ice Fatigue analysis under Fatigue directory,
1) Create dynamic response input file DYRINP.ICE for this ice fatigue analysis
Force Driven Analysis VIBR will be selected on dynamic response options for 50 modes.
Structural damping 2%.
A Forced Vibration Analysis line FVIB will be defined for Ice Vibration Analysis with
Structure Damping Only. Plot Base Shear vs. Time, Plot OTM vs. Time and Plot
Ice Forceds and Deflections will be checked. Load case will be created for both maximum
base shear and overturning moment. Modal response will be both printed and plotted.
Ice Fatigue - 2

Ice Load Group Modification line GRPMD will be used to delete ice loading from pile
groups PL3, PL4 and PL5.
An integration Control TIME line added to enable Start time = 0.0 Secs and End time =
60.00 secs, output time interval = 0.02 secs, minimum integration time step = 1.0E-8 and
finally the integration control tolerance factor =1.0.
Fatigue options defined here for ice fatigue analysis.
Design life = 20.0 with Life safety factor = 2.0
All plates and non-tubular elements may be skipped;
API X curve with thickness correction selected as S-N curve;
Kuang and Wordsworth KAW will be used for SCF calculation;
Max and Min SCF will be prescribed
For fatigue option 2 line, check Member Summ. Rep. (Life Order) and SCF Validity
Range Check.
Using joint selection line to define only joints 201L, 203L, 205L, 207L, 301L, 303L, 305L,
307L, 401L, 403L, 405L and 407L will be included for fatigue damage evaluations.
Using SCF limits line SCFLM to define max. SCF = 6.0 and min. SCF = 2.0.
The ice floe characteristics listed below will be added in 000, 045 and 090 directions for ice
fatigue analysis using ICE lines. Elastic Modulus = 0.4 MN/cm2, Weight Density = 0.9 t/m3,
Stiffness parameter = 0.0315, All velocity step size = 0.05 m/sec, All durations of ice
movement = 0.2 hrs.
