Beasley Family Update Thru February 1983

We hope you had an enjoyable Christmas and
New Year! Our family spent the holiday period
in Sou and enjoyed seeing a Kurti Kristmas.
Soon after the New Year we traveled to Madang
to meet with our co-workers in a PBT business

meeting.

The PBT meeting was very productive - we

accomplished a lot and Alice Parrish had a new

baby girl. Sherry. (Congratulations!, Dave and

Alice,) Another development coming from the
meeting is a new administrative structure which

Director. I resigned and Ron Augsburger was

elected. William Butler was elected to oversee

the translation progress.

What this means is

that, before we leave PNG and then after we

return in 1984, Alta and I can concentrate on our
work in Sou. Before we leave, we will finish the

interior work on our house and pack up our

things which we will leave in Sou.
If you didn't receive our Christmas letter, you
may not know that we have moved into our new

house. We praise the Lord for our progress and

request your continued prayers.

Furlough Soon!!
In a short time we will be starting our first
furlough. During thirteen very short months,
we hope to see as many of you as possible, visit
our relatives, finish my M.A. in linguistics and
take an intensive Hebrew course, put the boys
through the 4th and 6th grades, speak to
potential translators and support workers, and
perhaps even take a short vacation. We also
plan to represent PBT at the North American
Christian Convention in St. Louis, MO. (July
26-29) and the National Missionary Convention
in Des Moines, Iowa (Sept. 27-30). Alta and I
will also participate in the Pioneer Linguistics
Institute (PLI - an introduction to linguistics and
Bible translation offered by PBT) to be held on
the Cincinnati Bible Seminary campus May 22-

of April and we plan to return to PNG the last

week of May, 1984. Our "base of operation" for
the most of the year will be Dallas, TX where we
will all go to school. We are writing about
possible dates to visit your church but if you
would tike us to come and have not heard from

us yet, drop a tetter to the Tanksleys.

Van Need
Since we will be traveling a lot during our
furlough, we need a reliable means of
transportation which enables us to arrive
relatively alert and comfortable. To meet this
need, we would like to borrow, lease, or buy a
late-model, low-mileage van. If you could help

call or write the Tanksleys (our forwarding

PBT Computer Project

God has answered our prayers for the
computer project in a most encouraging
manner:
the PBT computer has been

for completely, and has already begun its

service to our PBT people in Papua New
Guinea. Your generous response to this need
has enabled us to purchase computing power
adequate for our needs for many years. The
only extra expense will be for maintenance
(service agreement, supplies, etc.) and growth
(new programs, additional consoles/work
stations, etc.). Of course, it is not a "perfect
perpetual-motion machine" so it wilt eventually
need to be replaced but not for a long time. We
praise the Lord and we thank you for your
participation in our Bible translation ministry.

November 1983

Dear Christian Friend,

We hope this finds you happy and well and rejoicing in the knowledge that God sent His Son to be our
Saviour. We're already enjoying our first Christmas back in the States even though it is still several weeks
away. It's exciting to see all the preparations and to be a part of the churches' planning for Christmas
programs and specials. We really missed all that while we were in Papua New Guinea.
We just want to take this time to let you know how much we appreciate you and that you mean a great
deal to us. We want to thank you for remembering us on special days (and not-so-special days, as well)
while we were in PNG and for all the times you remembered to pray for us. We felt your prayers and love.
We want to wish you now a very blessed Christmas season and a time of spiritual fulfillment. We want to

join you in praising God for His great gift of a Saviour and remember, with you. Jesus' love for us in
being willing to come. Isn't He wonderful?
We have had a very busy Summer and Fall so far but are enjoying it. We have been able to visit many of
our supporting churches in Michigan, Indiana and Mississippi. We really enjoyed attending the National

Missionary Convention and the North American Christian Convention. We were privileged to be
present at the homecoming celebration
which we helped start back in 1970. We

are still looking forward to visiting many of you next Spring and
is very demanding and we aren't able to get away as often as we
go to visit with you all.

The boys are doing great in school and love their teachers, friends and their school. Adam told me
shortly after school began, "Mom, my teacher is the'next to the best'teacher I have ever had". Iasked him
a little hesitantly, "Well, who was your favorite then?" 1melted when he said, "Why, you, of course, Mom".
I think he was being a little flattering, but it made me feel good. They both have orthodontic appliances
now and we are praising God for a very kind and generous dentist. Jonathan also is wearing glasses

now. He takes piano and choir at school and is doing very well. They are growing faSt.
We are remembering our friends in Souh village on Manus Island and are getting anxious to see them
again. We enjoyed observing Christmas with them last year and trust that, in someway, God will be very
real and close to them this Christmas season also while we are away. Please continue to remember them
in your prayers.
This Christmas letter and greeting will take the place of our regular newsletter for this period. Again we
wish you all a very blessed Christmas and joy in serving Jesus as the new year approaches. God bless
you.
