To Whom It May Concern:

My experience with Professor Kate Abramson has been nothing short of what the
ideal student professor relationship should be. I first had Professor Abramson my
junior year as an undergraduate at Indiana University as part of my curriculum on a
minor in Philosophy. This first class was lively, full of discussion, and similar in many
respects to my Hutton Honors College courses, which also carry a significantly
greater amount of interactivity between students. This aspect of class is stressed in
all of Kates classes reading material and listening in class are not the only
engagements that a student should take part in. In fact, actively engaging in the
material through debate and critiques is the greatest tool in a contemporary
philosophers vast arsenal of useful utilities, and this viewpoint of hers shines
through in her teaching style.
Since my first class with Professor Abramson, I have had multiple opportunities to
discuss philosophy in an office hours setting, going far beyond course curricula and
wrestling with some of the most contemporary and cutting-edge issues that are
brought to light on a daily basis in my life and the lives of many other humans. Her
willingness to dedicate her time and energy to helping me understand my own life,
core belief systems, and reasons for the choices I make showcase her incredible
devotion to students and not just to students, but to the betterment of students
outside of reading a dry but admittedly interesting article from the 18 th century.
There is no doubt in my mind that Professor Abramson dedicates far beyond what is
necessary to ensure the future of our greatest thinkers is bright and full of hope.
In order to provide a concrete example of my belief that Professor Abramson is one
of the most caring and informative professors at IU Bloomington, one only needs to
look at my methodology for choosing which philosophy course to pursue when
registering for classes. The basic steps are as follows: Search by Instructors Last
Name, enter Abramson, and pick whatever class she happens to be teaching. The
experience, no matter what the topic, is sure to be enlightening and engage me in a
critical way that literally no other class at IU has done other than my topics classes
through Hutton Honors College.
In addition, Kate has offered me unique opportunities. She recognizes some ability
to critically engage with material that is on a slightly different level than the
average class discussion, and has invited me to partake in her graduate lecture this
coming semester. This is an incredible opportunity that she has presented and I
wholeheartedly and enthusiastically accepted it.
I believe Kate has shown her mettle, regard, warmth, wits, and incredible intellect
over the 2 semesters that I have had her. Her teaching style is impeccable and
professional, and I look forward to more interaction with her in the future in classes
that are sure to be the best memories I have of my time at IU.
Sincerely,

Justin M Hodorek
